Latest Trends in Automotive Engines
A webinar on ‘Latest Trends in Automotive Engines’ by Mr. Kedar Gokhale - Regional Manager - Powertain COE India - TATA TECHNOLOGIES LTD. He shared that Engineering is all about application and not just restricted to theoretical classes. He shared with students’ detailed insights about vehicle propulsion and the typical IC Engine Operation. He also talked about what is needed for any I.C. engine to achieve maximum efficiency including largest cylinder volume with lowest surface area; greatest possible working speed; greatest possible expansion ratio and greatest possible pressures at the beginning of expansion. He further stated that to accomplish controlled combustion one needs air fuel mixture within ignitable range and three T’s including time, temperature and turbulence. Mr. Gokhale shared the challenges for conventional gasoline engine comprising of poor part load efficiency due to throttling; knocking combustion and hydrocarbon emissions. He also outlined the need for throttle-less operation i.e. Quality Governing; need for stratified charge and the need for minimized path for airborne fuel.
