Inauguration of Two-day online Training Programme on Intellectual Property Rights at Amity University

A two-day online training programme on IPR commenced at Amity University focusing on disseminating knowledge about patent searching, checking the novelty of an innovation and further drafting of patents. The programme is being organized by DST-Amity Technology Enabling Centre with a focus on ‘Getting Innovative and Understanding IPR’ on the first day for the benefit of faculty members, researchers and students.
Dr. Amrish Chandra, Associate Professor (Patent Agent (IN/PA-2959, Government of India), Centre for Drug Regulatory Affairs & Pharmacy Practice, Amity Institute of Pharmacy, the Resource Person for the Training Sessions shared the historical journey of Pharmacy in the country and the growth of the sector over the years. Dr. Chandra stated that starting of process patent in the 1970s was a landmark decision in the Indian Pharmacy sector. He averred that innovations are important for researchers & companies as even a single innovation can lead to the creation of a SME. He shared the example of innovator, engineer and educational reformist Mr. Sonam Wangchuk and his inventions of Siphon technique and Ice Stupa technique that solved the problem in a community using basic knowledge and innovation. He stated that ideation is a personal problem-solving process of non-routine kind and can be learned, practiced & successfully applied by all in every walk of life. Dr. Chandra shared the various kinds of applications used for filing of patents.
Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Head, Department of Technology Development Transfer and Scientist, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India shared that it’s the vision, motivation and passion of Dr. Chauhan who is spearheading this movement and showing the path even to the government in the field of education. He talked about the huge gap in academic research and industries connect and how Technology Enabling Centres (TEC’s) were established as enablers to bridge this gap. He further stressed on the creation of an environment to take forward these innovations and technologies and transfer to industries. Dr. Sharma shared the need to look beyond filing patents and screen, sieve & evaluate them to understand their potential to be further converted into technology.
Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group of Institution stressed upon the passion and obsession shared by Amity University for Innovation and the vision to make the institution reach the top spot in research and invention. He also announced a course on IPR and Patent filing at Amity University.
Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University averred that he is excited with this two-day workshop and how Amity has been working on creating institutions and innovations that are useful for the country. He further added that scientific culture at the university is propelled by the mandate to file patents in the areas of their research. Scientists at Amity University are working on issues plaguing the world and looking for solutions through their research for societal benefit. He also averred that in a unique experience initiated by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, young scientists at Amity University are being mentored by seniors & experienced scientists to develop a new breed of scholars to work in the right way and in the right direction.
Dr. Qamar Rahman, Dean of Research Science and Technology, Amity University, Lucknow talked about how we have created an innovative hub at Amity and there is an urgent need for transferring of technology to the industry. She further shared how air pollution is the biggest problem in the world that needs serious attention.
Dr. W. Selvamurthy, DG, ADSI & President ASTIF talked about the works done by Dr. Neeraj Sharma on need to increase the innovative index and the process to create more TEC’s with one of the initial centres running at Amity University. He also averred that 1285 patents have been filed by Amity University till date. The session was well-attended by over 2,000 participants across various social media platforms.
