Learning for Self -Reliance
Amity Institute of Behavioral and Allied Sciences, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, organized an Online Guest Lecture on the topic “Learning for Self -Reliance”, under the guidance of Dr. Harish Kumar (HOI, AIBAS) and Moderator Dr.T Beena on 23rd May,2020. The Resource Person for the lecture was Prof. Dr. Rekha Agrawal, Senior Professor, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya. More than 300 students and faculty attended the lecture. They were from Amity University, DIET, SCERT-Delhi, DOE –Delhi, Central University of South Bihar-Gaya, CCS University Meerut and many more.
Prof. Agrawal made an opening remark saying that the present scenario has made us realize that it is very important to become self-reliant in order to tide over the present situation. She defined self -reliance as ‘reliance in one’s own efforts and abilities.’ It is not just about being independent and self –sufficient but also about fully trusting in one’s own abilities, always taking actions in a positive direction and helping the others by creating something that adds value to the lives of people. She stressed that the traits of a self -reliant person are accepting responsibility, taking his own decisions, being emotionally mature, skillful, competent and productive. The system should be in place to facilitate innovation, creativity, productivity, individuality, specialization and self-reliance in each child.
Elaborating on the Social system, Prof Agrawal mentioned that the principle of interdependence makes the core of the social fabric. Different systems interact and collaborate with each other to add value. She emphasized on the importance of collaboration and stated the eight important fundamentals of how to collaborate. These included: Zero Expectation, Building your USP, Strengthening digital, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, Enriching network, Enhancing soft skills, Becoming a Leader, Having an independent opinion and most importantly being innovative and productive.
The Guest lecture evinced a lot of interest in the participants and this kept the question and answer session lively. Dr. Harish Kumar Tyagi, HOI, AIBAS in the concluding remarks emphasized the importance of learning practical skills , communication skills and becoming self- disciplined in order to become self-reliant. The session ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr T Beena.
