Adapting and embracing change discussed during webinars in Amity University
In a webinar on ‘Adaptive – Embracing Change’, Mr. Madhu Pajeer, ICT TEAM LEADER -MASDAR - Masdar City- Abu Dhabi stated that embracing change is part of human evolution. “Adapting is part of life genetic material. But talking of change at the organizational level, we must know how to redefine and adapt ourselves and further reinvent ourselves. Organizations exist in certain contexts & must change to survive,” said Mr. Majeer.
Talking about Change being a catalyst, necessity and saviour, Mr Majeer shared that one must realize that it’s normal to change thus manage the stress caused from initial reactions. “Understand what’s going on in your organization; gain a better sense on what’s going on around you and change yourself and also be a catalyst of change for people around you,” averred Mr. Majeer. He shared the types of organizational changes including strategic adjustments; strategic reorientation and transformational change that is necessary to remain relevant and competitive. He further averred that time to change depends on initial reaction. “The stages range from shock; denial; anger; passive acceptance; explore and finally taking it as a challenge,” added Mr. Majeer. He shared the characteristics of a change agent as future oriented; self-motivated; carry positive thought and have the ability to understand others and persuade.
In a webinar on "Resilience in the times of the Pandemic", Dr. Anurag Batra, Chairman - Business World shared how at this moment it was important to do self-care. He averred how the country is witnessing a disrupted business climate mainly because of the unknown we face ahead of us. “As we have entered the fight to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with harsh but very important measures of quarantine and staying at home, this is impacting the country’s economy. Thus, it is a social responsibility of enterprises to conduct business in new ways never seen before in India and mitigate some of the negative impact on the country’s economic climate and health,” shared Dr. Batra.
“We are living in the VUCA world, a term invented for COVID. Leaders have gathered themselves now and are working towards restoration. It’s ok to feel lost at this time. It’s time to be nice to yourself. Storms don’t last and dreams don’t perish is something I say. Learn new skills and use this time to evolve,” shared Dr. Batra.
He further averred that this time is not the new normal. “There are new rules we need to follow. Life is about a trade- offs. This is the time that calls for resilience and build a new you. Don’t be scared. Most of you are lucky that you have something valuable to be engaged in. Resilience should lead to reinvention and re-skilling. Chose the right things to do at this time and these will help you in your career,” added Mr. Batra. He shared how he is re-imagining his business, thinking of how the product would be post Covid and how the dynamics of the publications are evolving.
A lecture by Mr.Aji Issac Mathew, CEO and Co- Founder- TechShu was delivered on ‘How to learn new skills effectively using digital mediums’. During his address he said that due to serious situation of COVID19 the industries that are able to sustain or can survive for at least one year that period is growth for them. Growth of company is only in surviving this phase. The major issue industry is facing that people who used to buy a lot are not buying things at all. So the companies are becoming conservative and the risk of unemployment is also increasing. Lot of digitalization is happening in every sector,” shared Mr. Mathew.
He also mentioned 5 things one can do including Be a creator, not just consumer; Become mature, the new way; Maturity has nothing to do with age; Know how to learn faster and right way and Build your online brand for getting a job.
