Dr. Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals Group while delivering a lecture on ‘Finding the Leader Within’ said that it is time to look at yourself from within and being humble to everyone.
“If we ask people about their stress then answer would be that most of us are in stress. We are always running the race of impressing others which puts us under constant pressure. Don't work under pressure but work over the pressure. You have to believe and bring change in yourself and then only you can see the change in world that you wish to see,” averred Dr. Sibal.
He also advised students to persuade ideas and have courage to experiment! He also asked students to be thankful for what we have. “Gautam Buddha shad said that ‘Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick and if we got sick, at least we didn't die. So, let us all be thankful,” said Dr.Sibal.
Asking students to keep their cool in adversity, he also advised them to keep their mind open to learning and possess the courage to think different and take risks. “There are many people who have everything but they are unhappy so realize the value what you have and be humble. Show gratitude. Practice gratitude every day to make it a habit,” shared Dr. Sibal.
A webinar on ‘Reinvigorating Mental Health - Need of 2020’ by Dr. Monika Sharma Founder, Sleep Moksha Ex Consultant - Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi and Post Doc (University of Pennsylvania, USA) talked about how India is on the cusp of a full-blown mental health epidemic.
“We are all witnessing the storm and everyone is carrying the nervous energy around. There is a fear of failure or of making a bad decision prior to the decision being taken. Our desire to avoid failure triggers process of recognition and addressing the threat. How the body reacts under pressure is dictated by the mind and decides their success or failure, shared Dr. Sharma. She further averred that talking about mental health is important as it is imperative to decide your success when performing under immense pressure.
It was also stated that COVID-19 is not the first virus that has threatened humanity neither will it be the last. One will have to renew their mind to come out of this. “It’s your ability to resist, mental toughness that will help you navigate through these tough times. I would suggest that you develop skills that strengthen your mental health,” stated Dr. Sharma. She also shared how mental toughness is rooted in sleep and one should get good night sleep for sound mental health and developing resilience.
