Leadership Skills Honed for Students through Webinars by Amity University

In a webinar on ‘Leadership - what skills corporates look for in candidates’, Mr V. Anand, Learning Consultant Freelancer shared with the students about the qualities students should have to be considered as leaders in the working world. He also shared the known leadership traits including Vision; strategy; results; quality; passion; change; empathy; ownership; conviction; courage; perseverance and patience. Mr Anand defined a LEADER has L – being pen to Learning; E- having Energy; A – being Adaptable; D- having direction; E- gives Effort and R- shows Resilience. “In the present scenario, being adaptable is an integral trait as having an open mind and changing yourself as per the needs of the times will help you survive. The more adaptive you are the happier you will be,” advised Mr. Anand to the students. He also asked students to keep a few things in mind in the current scenario including taking no job as too small; compliment those who work for you; think of freelance and while working from home have discipline and be a self-leader. Sharing his views on ‘College and Career Readiness: Preparing Students for 21st Century Work and Life’, Mr. Rajeev Chopra, Founder & CEO, iBAHN Illumination Pvt Ltd, ("SVAROCHI" Brand name) talked about a number of aspects of success and how it means different thing to different people. “What success means to an individual is the key. So it’s integral to define success to yourself. To be successful, you need to be functionally proficient. Need to demonstrate achievement which is a necessary but not a sufficient condition. You need good soft skills as well. And working effectively in teams and with people is the single most important skill for a successful career,” shared Mr. Chopra. He also averred how listening to understand alternative points of view is key to working effectively with others. “The key is to be assertive without being abrasive and having an open mind .You must also learn how to manage time and stay organized. Also, one needs to acquire negotiation skills to be successful and keep in mind that negotiation is not bargaining. Listening skills are very critical to be a good negotiator. You should also start practicing precise communication now as this kind of communication helps to get results,” stated Mr. Chopra. He further discussed how successful executives are generally good in networking and how students should read business publications to be in the knowhow of the events and try to spot trends. Another webinar on ‘Industry 4.0- Transforming Era Towards Smart Factories’ was conducted by Dr. Anand Nayyar, Professor, Researcher and Scientist, Graduate School, Duy Tan University where he talked about Industrial Revolution Foundations; Industry 4.0, Cyber Physical Systems and Industry X.0 – The future video of future robotics. He also stated that it was the opportune time for Industry4.0 businesses to transform into smart businesses as during COVID19 when industries and economies are getting affected, lot of businesses will change using Industry 4.0. Taking students through the history of Industrial Revolutions in the world, Dr. Nayyar shared that the fourth industrial revolution will be based on cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things and the Internet of Services and how it will generate enormous Big data streams that can be harvested and analyzedfor resource-efficient and ultra-high quality production. He further averred that Augmented and dual reality systems allow individualized workflows and fats learning of new production processes. Dr. Nayyar also shared at length about Additive Manufacturing and Cyber Physical System. Talking about ‘COVID-19: Dealing with Misinformation During the Pandemic’, Ms. Sonia Bhaskar, Head, Web Synergi, NDTV shared a talk on fake news and its impact on COVID-19. She shared with the students that along with COVID-19 spreading globally, fake and imaginary information are also spreading along with it. This was also acknowledged by the WHO that stated how the world was not just fighting a disease but also with overload of information. It was also stated by Ms Bhaskar that false information can be created from anywhere, even while sitting at home and shared across the globe using various social media platforms. The real problem with fake news is that it not only makes people believe in fake things- but it’s also making them less likely to accept truthful information. She advised students to follow only the advice of doctors if undergoing a medical treatment and follow social distancing and the lock down stringently. It was also shared how students should check the authenticity of a message and avoid spreading fake news or information. Another webinar was conducted by Mr. Debashish Mukherjee, Senior Sales Manager, Hyatt India Corporation Limited on ‘Importance of People and Communication Skills for a Successful Career’. Talking about soft skills for effective communication, Mr. Mukherjee shared that more and more businesses are considering soft skills as an important job criteria. An increase in service industry emphasizes the need for soft skills that include communication skills; body language; making decision; self-motivation; leadership skills; team working skills; creativity and problem solving skills; time management and the ability to work under pressure. He further shared how these soft skills help an individual both in their personal and professional lives.
