Nation and Individual Building Discussed During Webinars at Amity University
In a talk on ‘Self-leadership & influencing without authority Ms Maria Pressentin, Head Learning & Organizational Development, The Ken Blanchard Company, Singapore talked about general concerns in present environment. She focused upon issues related to Health & Wellness; Home lockdown; Finances; Disrupted routines; Distractions in Working from Home; Resources & Tools; Fear & Anxiety; Time Management, concerns that are being commonly faced globally. She suggested to be proactive in these times by activating points of power one possesses and accepting challenges with constraints. She said that one can create the best of times by proactively lending the direction and support that one needs. She added that leader is anyone who can give you the direction and support you need.
Ms. Pressentin said that everyone must set their life goals. A person who doesn’t set a goal is used by someone who does. She shared the benefits of setting goals that include goals guide work/ studies and provide directions; make objectives and expectations clear; set intentions and provide focus on important things; link you to the organization's mission; set things in motion and encourage action.
Ms. Pressentin emphasized on writing SMART Goals i.e. Specific; Motivating; Attainable; Relevant; Trackable. She added that in a world crying out for effective leadership, you need to begin with the most obvious source – yourself.
Talking about the ‘Hidden Opportunity in Corona Virus Crisis and Nation Building’, Col Jeevan Kumar Singh, Col (Retd), Indian Army spoke about the opportunities that any calamity brings. “Largest of global economies and shattered and we have to read it in time to cash these opportunities that have risen because of this pandemic,” shared Col. Singh. He shared how this global crisis has led to decentralization and how countries are taking steps to become self-reliant. He also shared how the lock down has led to the migrant workers go back to their native places making ample labour force available for the harvest season. He also stated how the future superpower will be those nations that have enough food grains. He asked every citizen to grow whatever they can to contribute to the national resources. “The change of working pattern with focus on work from home has created a spin off from the lock down. The health sector has taken the forefront and it is a great opportunity to invest in it. The pandemic has made us realise the value of life,” said Col. Singh.
A webinar was organized on ‘Design Thinking’ Ms. Dhwani Khanna, Entrepreneur, Brand Satvik. The speaker, Ms. Khanna shared that design thinking is a structured techniques used by designers to create goods, services and experiences. She shared how design thinking can be implemented on complex issues that cannot be understood otherwise. Low cost prototypes can be created using design thinking that can be further tested in real time scenarios.
Mr Kazi Iftequr Hossain, President, Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association in his webinar on ‘Challengesfaced by global apparel industry in the current scenario of COVID-19’ shared that a problem doesn’t always comes with roadblocks but also provides opportunities that need to be identified. “COVID-19 might have reduced our economic growth but we will bounce back and pick the pace. The textile and apparel industry in the country is getting opportunities to occupy an important space in the global market. People would want to buy clothes that make them stay away from infections and diseases post COVID-19 and students should research on this. It will be a challenge to fulfill the demands of people once the lock down is over and people should make use of this time to enhance their capabilities,” said Mr. Hossain. He also stated that newer markets and competitors will increase post the COVID-19 epidemic with countries focusing on building and creating indigenous products.
