ONLINE GUEST LECTURE ON 21ST CENTURY TEACHING SKILLS
Amity Institute of Behavioural and Allied Science(AIBAS), Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, organised an online guest lecture on 13th of April 2020 with the objective of understanding the trends in the teaching skills in the 21st century and provide guidance in the emergent situation to update and stay relevant. The lecture was also aimed at providing a peak into the nuances of transfer of skills from classroom teaching to online teaching. The Lecture was attended by more than 308 participants working in the field of school education. The expert speaker was Ms. Seema Malik, Principal of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar. The event was organized by Dr. Harish Kumar, HOI, AIBAS and moderated by Dr. T.Beena.
The speaker, Ms. Seema Malik, with over 30 years of experience in the domain of Education, in her introductory remark spoke of the rapidly changing scenario compelled and fuelled by the ongoing pandemic, pushing the teachers to adopt and adapt themselves to the technological demands in a swish of a time. This has also lead to the students grappling with the situation and trying to shift from F2F to online teaching. She highlighted the inevitable role played by technology that has helped to incorporate the ever-growing needs of learners by making education more accessible, productive and effective. She further mentioned the four CENTURY TEACHING SKILLS (Cs) of 21st Century learning skills which are: communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. She reiterated that it is the four Cs that helped enable teachers and students to take a giant technological leap and have continued to grow in times of extreme crisis.
She stated that the sagacity and thirst to master technological knowhow is the future of education and substantiated the statement by discussing how owing to technological advancements we have been able to rely on the virtual means of learning to continue functioning even in times of a global pandemic that forced a complete lockdown. Catering to the needs of all students through personalized learning instructions for learners, enhanced learning experiences in flipped classrooms and project based learning, comprehensive internationalisation and cross cultural exchange of knowledge and ideas have all been made achievable with technology.
She concluded her lecture by stating that ‘one becomes successful only if one is willing to learn, unlearn and relearn with the changing circumstances of life’. The lecture was well received by the audience and was followed by an interactive question and answer session. Dr T Beena thanked the speaker and the participative audience.
