Amity Institute of Public Policy (AIPP), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus organized an Annual International Conference on Public Policy 2024 (I-CoPP’24) on the theme, “Changing Paradigms in Public Policy: Technological Disruptions, Environmental Displacements and Human Ingenuity” 14th to 15th March, 2024.   The Conference was organized with the aim to identify the key technological disruptions that are transforming society, to examine the impact of environmental displacements on human population and to explore how human ingenuity can be leveraged to develop innovative solutions.

Highlighting the significance of Public Policy, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Today, Public Policy is influenced by technological disruptions and it is extremely crucial to identify the key technological disruptions that are transforming the society.  The way industrial transformation is happening, and the country is going through unprecedented development, new challenges are also arising in front of us. The responsibility of higher educational institutions is not limited to just imparting education but also to prepare students to contribute towards nation building for which Amity is committed.”

Addressing the gathering, Shri Sandeep Sarkar, Chief Vigilance Officer, GAIL Ltd., averred, “We are witnessing great times, where culture, administration, technology, economy, and all other areas are evolving. The country is moving towards becoming the world's third largest economy and capital investment is increasing with a focus on infrastructure, and development. Despite all the development, young policy makers are facing challenges such as income gap, environment, health, education and security issues, which need to be addressed. No single solution can apply to every problem and therefore, every problem requires a specific, tailor-made solution.”

Shri Anil Kumar Yadav, DCP Traffic, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Government of U.P., said, “When it comes to Public Policy, it is necessary to formulate new policies for the benefit of society with the use of technology. While formulating new policies, it is necessary to keep in mind the protection of environment along with the needs of society. Such conferences are extremely important for future policy makers which includes the students, who will be instrumental in formulating public policies in line with the current scenario, with the help of new technologies.”

Prof. (Dr.) Rumki Basu, Head, Centre for Public Policy and Governance deliberated upon the complexities of technological disruption and environmental displacement and said that every new technology comes with its advantages and disadvantages, therefore it is crucial to understand its utility and use it very carefully.

Emphasizing upon the role of technology in Public Policy, Prof Tarjeet Sabharwal, Honorary Director, Centre for Culture Media Governance, asserted, “Technology is playing a key role in the advancement of many areas, including Public Policy. Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics are shaping the administration of society, in the current scenario. At the same time, a lot of misinformation is also being spread through technology which is not good for democracy, and it is emerging as a big challenge. It is necessary to formulate policies to combat misinformation so that people get factually correct and accurate information.”
