Amity University Noida signed MoU with Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL), DRDO, to foster joint research, during the 6th International Conference on Recent Trends in Materials and Devices (ICRTMD-2023), organized by Amity Institute of Applied Sciences and Amity Institute of Advanced Research and Studies. Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL) is one of the best-known R&D laboratories in the country which is engaged in the high-quality research and development of advanced semiconductor materials and devices.
Addressing the gathering during the MoU Signing Ceremony, Dr. Meena Mishra, Director, Solid State Physics Lab (SSPL), DRDO, said, “After the war between Russia and Ukraine, the importance of semiconductors has increased and therefore research in this area has also been enhanced. The technologies developed by Solid State Physics Laboratory include High G MEMS switch, Design and Development of Acoustic Emission Sensor, Acoustic Emission Technology, Chemical Warfare Sensors, Infrared Technology for Night Vision, amongst many others and SSPL aims to strengthen scientific interaction with academia, industry and international centres of excellence.”
Emphasizing upon the need for research and innovation, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President Amity Education Group, stated, “At Amity, students are encouraged to carry out path-breaking research in different areas so that they develop products and technologies to solve the problems of the society. At present climate change and pollution is a serious problem for which we need to develop new materials and pursue research. Therefore, these insightful conferences are extremely beneficial in providing information about the latest technologies and innovations through which the students can transform the world.” He called upon the scientists and experts to share their ideas and thoughts which can be implemented by the students and young researchers of Amity.
Highlighting the significance of the Signing the MoU, Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, ASTIF, asserted, “The MoU would be a stepping stone for Amity to build a productive partnership through collaborative R&D projects to address multi-disciplinary scientific and technological aspects of national relevance. The MoU primarily aims at joint research and collaborations, joint workshops, joint academic programs, joint supervision for Ph.D., and formal institutional programs.”
Sharing his views on the occasion, Dr. S. Sathiyanarayanan, Chief Scientist and Head, CSIR- New Delhi, opined, "Research and innovation in materials and devices is the need of the hour. India has become a leader in many areas, but we are still dependent on many countries in the field of material equipment. If India must become self-reliant, then we must develop products using Indian technology by promoting joint research in the areas of material equipment. The future generation must come forward and foster research work in this area.”
Expressing his concern regarding environmental issues, Prof. Suresh Valiyaveettil, Professor, National University of Singapore, said, “Single-use plastic must be replaced by microplastics, which causes less pollution. Whenever we use any product, we pay attention only to its use, whereas we must pay attention to the disposal of the waste after its use so that the environment is not harmed in any way.” He advised the young researchers to find solutions to real life problems through their research work.
Prof. A.D. Sawant, Director, Waste to Energy Research and Technology Council, Mumbai, emphasized, “Scientific resources can be used to address environmental issues. Waste management is extremely essential and currently water, air and land is getting polluted by various waste products being disposed in the environment, which can be managed and controlled by latest research in the field of materials and devices.”
During the two-day Conference, various Plenary Lectures, Technical Sessions on Physical and Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Statistics and Oral Presentations by experts, scientists and researchers were organized and research papers were submitted. Prof. Sunita Rattan, Director, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences, welcomed the guests during the Inaugural Session and presented a brief overview of the conference.
