The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Government of India initiative under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It offers students in the 11th and 12th grades, as well as those in technical institutions, colleges, and universities across India, the opportunity to engage in a variety of government-led community service activities and programs. The primary goal is to enhance the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service, with the motto "Education through Service." NSS was introduced in 1969 in 37 universities with approximately 40,000 volunteers, and it has since expanded to include 657 universities, 51+2 councils/directorates, covering 20,669 colleges/technical institutions, and 11,988 senior secondary schools. Over the years, NSS has benefited more than 7.4 crore students.
Amity University Madhya Pradesh (AUMP) was granted first regular government financed NSS unit in April 2014. AUMP has been granted two regular grant-in-aid NSS units in April 2015 in which around 1.10 lakh fund is allotted. Each NSS unit at AUMP consists of 100 students. Since then, more than 200 students have been registered as NSS volunteers yearly. The NSS units at AUMP conduct various programs that benefit the students and the communities they serve.
