AICCRS have been an outcome of visionary approach of our Founder president Dr. Ashok K Chauhan. It was established in 2016. Here the major aim lies in exploring innovative technologies and design at a molecular scale which has the potential for societal impact in areas such as energy, health care, and the environment. Our Click Chemistry Research Program inaugurated by Prof. Brian Smith and Prof. John E Moses from La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science, Melbourne is the foundation of our department’s educational program. The academic level of the program is challenging — giving students an opportunity to obtain a very comprehensive training in biomaterial science and engineering. We are the first institute in India to offer the Master degree program in Molecular Chemistry for molecular level understanding of chemistry. This is a thorough program at the heart of chemistry covering all stages from molecule design to application. With this program students can get adequate knowledge of Chemistry at the Interface of biology and material science. During internships, students can participate in challenging research project under personal guidance of a researcher.
Bioinspired smart biomimetics and nanobiomaterials, 2D nanomaterials, Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Discovery, Chemical Biology and Immuno-intelligent materials for biomedical applications remain a strategic thrust at AICCRS which allows flexibility to our scholars to pursue their interest in a diverse domain while maintaining a conscientious amount of engineering fundamentals taught in laboratories.

At present numerous Sponsored and Consultancy projects from DST, DBT, UGC-DAE CSR, UP-CST, IUAC, and UGC-DAE are running in the department. We’re having several international collaborations such as The John Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore; La - Trobe Institute for Molecular Science, Melbourne and Nottingham University, UK. Special Centre for Nanoscience, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) Delhi, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thiruvananthapuram are among the few collaborations in India.
