Amity University Punjab and SVEEP Illuminate 14th National Voters’ Day

Amity University Punjab, in collaboration with the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Process (SVEEP), recently organized a grand event to commemorate the 14th National Voters’ Day. The event aimed to raise awareness among the youth of our nation about the significance of participating in the electoral process. Distinguished guests, including Shri Siban C., IAS, CEO Punjab; Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, IAS DC cum DEO Gurdaspur; Smt. Aashika Jain, IAS DC cum DEO, SAS Nagar; Sh Tarsem Jassar (Actor & Singer), Dr. SANDEEP GARG IPS, SSP SAS NAGAR; and Sh Isver Singh IPS, graced the occasion.

The event, hosted at Amity University, Mohali, began with a warm welcome by Vice-Chancellor Dr. RK Kohli, who passionately promoted the importance of voting among the audience. Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Siban C., emphasized the need to increase voter turnout during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections through a mass awareness drive under the SVEEP activities.

The State Level National Voters’ Day function featured the unveiling of the Election Awareness Mascot Shera 2.0 by Shri Siban C., reinforcing the message of exercising the right to vote. Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal IAS, DC Gurdaspur, received the Best Electoral Practice Award in the general category for the year 2023-24. State Police Nodal Office, Punjab, and individuals from district Jalandhar and Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar were also honored for their outstanding contributions to SVEEP.

Renowned Punjabi Singer and Actor, Tarsem Jassar, joined the event as the Punjab State ICON of Election Commission. He encouraged young voters to participate in the electoral process, urging those eligible to register and cast their votes.

The event concluded with a cultural bonanza showcasing performances such as Gidha, Bhangra, and Luddi. Additionally, a digital launch of the first edition of e-patrika on Electoral Literacy Club activities took place, along with the announcement of winners of an online painting competition.

The day's festivities also included an awareness tractor and bike rally flagged off from District Administrative Complex, Mohali, which culminated at the Amity University Campus.

In her address, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Aashika Jain expressed pride in the nation's progress as a democratic country and reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring transparent and inclusive elections in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
