Webinar on POSTHUMANISM

Events

Prof Radhakrishnan, Chancellor’s Professor of Humanities, distinguished Professor of English at University of California, was the speaker of the webinar on the topic, ‘Posthumanism’. He shared, “Posthumanism is a philosophical and cultural movement that explores what it means to be human in a world where technology, artificial intelligence, and other factors are changing the human experience. The relevance of posthumanism lies in its ability to help us navigate and make sense of these changes.” Some key areas where posthumanism has relevance include:

1. Artificial Intelligence and Robotics: As AI and robots become increasingly integrated into our lives, posthumanism helps us consider the implications for human identity, agency, and existence.

2. Biotechnology and Enhancement: Posthumanism examines the ethical and societal implications of human enhancement through biotechnology, such as genetic engineering and brain-computer interfaces.

3. Environmentalism and Sustainability: By challenging traditional human-centered perspectives, posthumanism encourages us to consider the interconnectedness of human and non-human entities in the face of environmental crises.

4. Identity and Diversity: Posthumanism promotes a more inclusive understanding of human experience, acknowledging the diversity of human and non-human forms of existence.

5. Ethics and Morality: Posthumanism encourages us to reevaluate our moral frameworks in light of emerging technologies and changing human circumstances.

By exploring these areas, posthumanism offers valuable insights into the complexities of the human condition in the contemporary times.
