Centre of Excellence

Amity Centre for Ocean-Atmospheric Science and Technology (AMITY COAST)

Centre is first of its kind in the state of Rajasthan to promote interdisciplinary research on numerical modeling of Ocean & Atmosphere state, monsoon studies, climate modeling, extreme weather as well as academic programs at graduate, post-graduate and doctoral levels. The Research is focused on

  • Mesoscale Modeling;  Prediction of High Impact Weather Events
  • Regional Climate Modeling and Diagnostic Studies
  • Ocean Modeling
  • Hydrology, Glaciers and Climate Change
  • Environmental Monitoring and Modeling

Environmental Monitoring Facility (EMF) has been established at Amity COAST with the collaboration of India Meteorological Department (IMD), New Delhi. Currently the EMF lab has The Sky Radiometer to measure scattered solar radiation at multiple wavelengths for the estimation of aerosol properties & Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD). Aethalometer: to measure the concentration of optically absorbing (‘black’) suspended particulates in a gas colloid stream; commonly visualized as smoke or haze, often seen in ambient air under polluted conditions.

Centre of Excellence

In addition, Amity COAST is also equipped with High Performance Computing server comprising of 3 nodes with total 96 cores, providing ~ 6 Tera Flops clock speed and 184 TB storage. CISCO network switch of 100 GB/s is connected to HPC for fast data transfer to remote users. The HPC server is fortified with parallel processing capabilities and meteorological data handling software. This is primarily utilized to simulate state-of-the-art numerical models of weather and climate for short and medium to seasonal scale prediction. Climate Simulation Lab (CSL) is placed with six high-end stand alone workstations extensively used by the Research Scholars for weather and climate modeling.

Amity Center for Positivism & Happiness” (ACPH)

During the well attended International Conference on “Positive Psychology: A New Approach to Mental Health” from August 6th to 8th, 2010 at Amity University Rajasthan, the novel concept of “POSITIVISM” was evolved by the global experts around the globe referred to as “Jaipur Declaration 2010 for Positivism”. To institutionalize and provide impetus to the moment, Founder President of Amity Group of Institution Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan proposed to develop new concept- “Positivity Quotient” (PQ). In this backdrop, Amity Center for Positivism (ACP) later renamed as Amity Center for Positivism and Happiness (ACPH) was established with the following objectives:

To promote awareness of Positivism and Happiness through Key-note addresses by thinkers of eminence from reputed organizations To initiate the action plan for providing training in developing positivism through workshops, symposiums, seminars, conferences etc. To introduce papers of positivism and positive psychology at Graduate and Post – Graduate levels.

Amity Center for Positivism & Happiness” (ACPH)

To start human value and virtue based courses.

Initiate Human Value based Activities in subjects (i.e. Care Centers, NGOs, geriatric populations, disabled & street children and persons of deprived class etc.) to improve their quality of life and sense of satisfaction.

Establishing Amitian International Association of Positivism and Happiness and publishing special issue on research papers.

Submitting projects in the areas of Positivism and Positive Psychology to different funding agencies including ICMR, ICSSR, DST, Indian Council of Philosophical Researches etc. and introducing Ph.D. programmed in the field of Positivism.

Introducing Best Research Paper Award named as "Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan Best Paper Award in Positivism and Happiness”.

Essentially, ACPH would help in promoting and improving quality of good life which is worth living with attributes including: tendency towards positive emotion than destructive emotions, satisfaction with life as it is lived, optimism for the future, gratitude about past, the use of virtues & strengths in engaging and fulfilling pursuits, healthy and close relationships with other people, meaningful interaction in groups and organizations , safety and positive mental health.

The Amity Centre for Water Studies and Research

The Amity Centre for Water Studies and Research has been established with a vision to provide excellence in teaching, research and consultancy in water and water related issues. The centre envisages offering solutions to all water related problems as a consultant organization and to produce highly trained and skilled graduates to deal with the water related issues in a multidisciplinary approach involving a converging approach of science technology and engineering to address local regional, national and global problems related to water availability and sustainable development.

These include among others, new areas of water toxicity due to nano-materials and other engineered toxic substances Issues arising out from the global warming and climate changes and their intricate relationships with water.

This is the only a dedicated centre in the western region which envisages on research, teaching and outreach activities in Water sector to address the exclusive challenges being faced by arid to semiarid region.

Amity Center for Mycobacterial Disease Research (ACMDR)

Amity University is a center of excellence for research on mycobacterial associated diseases. ACMDR has various research projects funded by the , DBT, MOEF, DSIR and BIRAC, Government of India. ACMDR has organized national and international every year.  Presently the vaccine development, diagnosis of mycobacterial diseases and Molecular genetics are the areas of interest in ACMDR.

  • To do the routine surveillance of different mycobacterial diseases
  • To develop point of care diagnostics for mycobacterial infections
  • To develop of preventive and therapeutic vaccines for mycobacterial infections

Amity Centre for Converging Technologies and Science (ACCTS)

Amity Centre for Converging Technologies and Science (ACCTS)

Converging Technologies is a transdisciplinary programme catering to the need of developing such world class graduates who understands multiple fields in depth and one who can intelligently work to integrate them for a common goal which may be to solve a particular problem or to innovate and improvise the existing tools or to develop altogether new products or to address fundamental scientific issues such as functioning of the life itself or how the human brain functions and how do we develop cognition or what is consciousness and many such questions which an expert of any particular field faces everyday but finds no clues or have deficiency due to lack of knowledge of other fields although solutions might come from other branches of science and technology provided one has some ‘in depth’ knowledge of the later.

This knowledge in some depth in a single individual through education with converging technologies and converging sciences approach can broaden his performance through intelligent integration of knowledge so that an individual or group of such individuals could think differently and ‘out of box’ for problem solving, product development, scientific advancement, innovation and paradigm shift in the scientific world that we live in today at a much faster pace which may result into new opportunities and creation of new challenges for faster economic development, poverty alleviation and improvement in the quality of life, health and better environment. Converging Technologies programmes at Amity is taking care of producing such graduates.
