NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS”

Amity Business School, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, in association with Consortium of Women Entrepreneurs of India (CWEI) organized a National Seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ on 29thJuly 2019. CWEI is accredited by Govt. of India and is a Member of National Board, Ministry of MSME and is working closely with Ministry of Rural Development. 

In the inaugural session commenced at 09.30 am, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.)gave the opening remarks and spoke on the need of Intellectual Property Rights in today’s dynamic environment. “Any idea or innovation cannot be commercialized without protection through IPR”, he said. Dr. Shashi Singh, Chairperson CWEI, spoke about Fostering women entrepreneurship using IP tools.She said that IPR is a tool to strengthen the innovation and ancient art. Dr. Jyoti Choithani Ramani, Senior Associate, KNS Partners, was one of the key note speakersduring the Inaugural Session. Dr. Ramani delivered her lecture on ‘Overview of IPR’. She covered introduction to various forms of Intellectual Properties, types of Patents & Design which comes under IP act in India. Ms. Sweta Rajkumar, Asst. Controller of Patents, IPO delivered her key note speech on Facilitation & Systems of Protection of IPR tools. She explained the process of filing & registration of Intellectual Property in India. She explained the importance of filing patents for any new product or innovation through various examples in Indian context. 

The inaugural session of the seminar was followed by post lunch technical session. Ms. Ankita Aich, Examiner-Copyrights, Intellectual Property India delivered her address on Copyright Act and Various Technical Aspects of Copyrights. She explained the timeline, process and legal requirements of copyright and also covered various tangible and intangible advantages of Copyrights. Ms. Anumita Verma, Examiner-Trademarks, Intellectual Property India, addressed the students on the topic Trademarks and Brand Building. She also covered various ethical and non-ethical practices which we encounter in our daily life with respect to use of registered properties under IP act.  Addresses of these speakers were followed by Open House Panel Discussion. It was a very important part of seminar where students asked various questions regarding protecting their new business ideas and government support for budding entrepreneurs to protect their business ideas and properties. 

The following were the major outcomes of the seminar:-

  • All entrepreneurs must enhance the market value of their business idea through licensing, sale of commercialization of protected products or services.
  • Entrepreneurs should target on turning ideas into profit-making assets through Intellectual property rights. 
  • Social Sciences professionals must take initiatives to identify ancient arts and cultures found in rural areas and strive to protect them through intellectual property rights. Protection of social entrepreneurship through IPR is the need of the hour and Universities must encourage it.

The Seminar concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Prof. (Dr.) Anil Vashisht, Director, Amity Business School. 

The feedback received about the seminar was very encouraging and positive. The students attending the seminar were very happy about the deliberations and the relevance of the innovative ideas of Intellectual Property Rights in Business management and social sciences shared during the seminar.
