Amity Institute of Social Sciences organized an Online lecture on “Sardar Patel’s contribution to India’s Foreign Policy.” The students of Amity University Madhya Pradesh commemorated Birth Anniversary of Sardar Patel which is celebrated as Unity Day on 31st October.
Patel’s involvement in India’s freedom has been crucial. The event took place on October 25, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:45 Noon in Block D. The programme commenced with a welcoming guests by Prof (Dr) Iti Roychowdhury, Dir AISS/ASL/ASCENT and all the faculty members. The students of AISS asked questions to resolve the inquisitive queries. As the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Patel organised relief efforts for partition refugees fleeing to Punjab and Delhi from Pakistan and worked to restore peace. Besides those provinces that had been under direct British rule, approximately 565 self-governing princely states had been released from British suzerainty. Patel, together with Jawaharlal Nehru persuaded almost every princely state to accede to India.
Patel's commitment to national integration in the newly independent country earned him the sobriquet "Iron Man of India”. The Statue of Unity, the world's tallest statue which was erected by the Indian government at a cost of US$420 million, was dedicated to him on 31 October 2018.
