World Pharmacists Day – 2024 Expert talk on From Medication to motivation: Role of Clinical Pharmacists in Patient Counseling

From Medication to motivation: Role of Clinical Pharmacists in Patient Counseling
 
 
1)     The Amity Institute of Pharmacy at Amity University Madhya Pradesh in Gwalior observed World Pharmacists Day on September 25, 2014, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. This event was part of the Innovation Week celebration to commemorate the birthday of Hon'ble Sir Dr. Aseem Chauhan, and it adhered to the guidelines set forth by the Pharmacy Council of India. The theme for the event was "Pharmacists: Meeting global health needs."
2)     The Objectives of the program were
a.     To celebrate World Pharmacists Day, 2024, Theme: Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs.
b.     To raise awareness for dispensing medications, providing patient counseling, and ensuring medication safety and efficacy.
c.     To encourage pharmacists to engage in continuous learning and stay informed about emerging trends in global health, effective disease management approaches, and innovations in pharmaceutical science.
d.     To emphasize the role of technological advancements in pharmacy, such as digital health tools, telepharmacy, and pharmaceutical innovations that enhance patient care.
e.     To educate students about patients and their medications, including how to take them, potential side effects, and interactions.
3)     Dr. Neeraj Mishra, a professor at AIP, initiated the program with a welcoming address. He alerted students to the dangers of self-medicating and emphasized the importance of pharmacists in the healthcare field.
 
 
 
 
4)     The distinguished speaker for the event was Dr. P. Sagar, who holds a Pharm D. and a PhD from Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, Punjab. Dr. Sagar delivered a talk on the topic "From Medication to Motivation: Role of Clinical Pharmacists in Patient Counseling." The event was attended by 185 faculty members and students from the Amity Institute of Pharmacy.
5)     The take-home points of the program are:
  • Pharmacists play a crucial role in guiding the safe use of over-the-counter medications, helping prevent misuse and promote better public health.
  •  Continuous education equips pharmacists with the latest knowledge and skills to effectively address global health trends, innovate in disease management, and stay at the forefront of pharmaceutical advancements. 
  • Technological advancements in pharmacy, including digital health tools and telepharmacy, significantly enhance patient care by improving accessibility, efficiency, and treatment outcomes.
  • Educating students about patients and their medications empowers them to effectively communicate safe usage, potential side effects, and interactions, ultimately improving patient care. 
6)     The program was a collaborative effort by Dr. Ajay Mahor and Mr. H. K. Pathan, with enthusiastic involvement from B. Pharm students across all semesters and AIP faculty. Under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) S. Mohana Lakshmi, the Director of Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Amity University MP, the program was flawlessly planned and executed.
