CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR DETECTION OF FAKE NEWS AND DISINFORMATION
Fake news is one of the biggest challenges being faced by world and civil society in the current times. Video and Photo morphing is not new to the world, but in this era of digital media, it is becoming more challenging, and we must curb this monster before it creates another mess in the world. To contribute to fighting against misinformation, Amity School of Communication has established a Centre of Excellence for Detection of Fake News & Disinformation (CDFND) at Amity University Madhya Pradesh. This Centre remains updated about technology for Detection of Fake news/videos/audios/pictures on social media/print/ electronic media. It also liaises with agencies like Google News Initiative, Poynter with know-how and methodology for Detection of Fake News. The Centre mainly trains the faculty members, research scholars and students of AUMP in general, and students of ASCO in particular in technology associated with the subject. It also gives training and consultancy to various Government/Educational institutes of Madhya Pradesh and other parts of India.
The Centre also focuses on how to have good publications in quality journals apart from detecting fake news. The menace of fake news is not limited to mere information but has spread its wings to academics in the form of publication.
Presently, thousands of publications are operating that are either predatory, cloned, or fake. Researchers often fall into the traps and waste their yearlong hard work by publishing their paper in any of the aforesaid mentioned publications. And we all know once the article is printed on the web, it becomes tough to remove its footprint from the internet. To curb this, CDFND works to detect cloned and fake journals. CDFND has helped more than 500 scholars and saved them from publication.
