Rotary Chandigarh Midtown in collaboration with The SOREM SCHOOL Sector 36, Chandigarh held an event to connect with the community of people with special abilities by organising a structured program named RYLA Vishesh. Rotary interact club student members of The Amity International School, Mohali enthusiastically contributed to the event and provided assistance by escorting the children from the Vatika School for the deaf and dumb to the venue to participate in the same. Our student member volunteers engaged in a variety of tasks like helping the front desk with registrations of the special needs children, taking care of discipline, making back stage arrangements etc. The students exhibited tremendous empathy and learnt important lessons about their social responsibility. We are proud of our students who have taken it upon themselves to give back to the society.

Guru Nanak Gurpurab, also known as Guru Nanak Jayanti and Guru Nanak ji’s Prakash Utsav, is a prominent festival for people who follow Sikhism. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev ji! Keeping the festive spirit in mind, Amity International School, Mohali took to the offline Platform to celebrate the event. The event started with a welcome note and significance of Gurupurab. It was a sight to behold when the students sang and performed the prayer song- ‘Nanak Aaya’ which propagates the selfless service to humanity, prosperity and social justice for all irrespective of any demographic difference. The young Amitians also enlightened everyone with Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings. Students were shown a short story on one of Guru Nanak's teachings 'Haq Sach di Kamai' . The event ended with an Anand Path kirtan followed by prasad distribution among the students. It was amazing to see the students reciting poems, singing shabad, and sharing the teachings as well as the preaching’s of Babaji. Principal Ms. Urvashi Kakkar appreciated the efforts put in by the children and the teachers and encouraged the students to follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji. The program concluded on a happy note with festive spirit and unbeatable excitement among the students.

They cut two congruent trapeziums and pasted them in such a manner that they form a parallelogram.

To understand the concept of Indicators and their use to indicate whether a substance is Acid/Base, Grade 7 students visited lab and performed experiment. Students used Red and Blue Litmus paper. Substances they observed included- Washing powder, Baking soda, Lemon juice, Vinegar. Students observed that the colour of Blue litmus paper changed to red with Lemon juice and Vinegar and no change in colour was observed with Washing powder and Baking Soda. Book talk-an excellent tool for reading motivation, was organized in Amity International School, Mohali for grade V. The purpose of the book talk was to to motivate listeners in order to foster good reading, writing and speaking skills by encouraging self-directed learning through reading. Sack Race, balloon balance & 100 mtr performed by Grade-2 and back-to-back balloon balance by parents. Further Roll the Ball, 100 mtr done by Grade-3 along with three-legged Race done by parents. Also grade 4 students performed Run for Fun & 4*50 Relay Race and Newspaper Race done by parents. “Follow the leader“ aerobics dance, Mass PT Exercise with balloons & Enthusiastic dance on the Song “Chak de India” Respectively done by Grade first, second and third. The winners got medals and certificates by the chief Guest, Principal ma’am and Col. Upkar Singh Virk sir. And the sports day ended by National Anthem. It was a day filled with enthusiasm.

Radio Talk Show - Rotary Club The Rotary Chandigarh Midtown club established the Rotary interact Club at Amity International School, Mohali this year and newly elected members successfully accomplished the JOY OF GIVING project and afterwards they started working on topics to empower the young minds such as environment protection and School life post covid. The Rotary Chandigarh mid town club in collaboration with Radio Punjab 90.0 organized a talk show at Chandigarh university for Rotary interact club members. The radio station provided a platform where they showcased their public speaking skills followed by rapid fire by RJ Geet. The school has gone an extra mile by taking kids to the Radio Show which developed confidence and skill to connect with audience. It was a thrilling experience.

Sundial is also known as "Shadow clock" was a more portable device that measured time throughout the day. Its discovery in early times by Egyptians has been widely known to all. To demonstrate this discovery and its use, grade 3 students of Amity International school, Mohali made a working model describing its functioning. This hands-on learning gave deep insight of the learning done during the session.

Grammar concepts are complex in nature but if connected with craft work, it eases their understanding. 'Preposition Cloud' hands-on activity from first grade introduced students to prepositions. The children made a preposition cloud writing examples of prepositions on a cloud cut out made of paper. A lot of colours and cutting work was involved and they thoroughly enjoyed doing this activity. They came up with lots of lovely craft work, ensuring a better understanding of prepositions.

The gala presentation depicted the life story of Lord Rama showing his way of life through the ideals and principles that form the crux of Indian culture and upbringing, giving the message of victory of good over Evil. Benign presence of the Principal of the school, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar, made the special occasion as the most cherished one for all. Teachers’ day assembly was held at AMITY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, MOHALI with great zeal and enthusiasm. The event was initiated with a prayer dance devoted to ‘Guru’ the teacher, followed by an array of events of dance performances, reciting of shlokas and giving of the titles to the teachers. Our little learners have done a remarkable job in the activity on Ordinal Numbers. Ordinal numbers are a great way to talk about the order of things. With a view to generate awareness on the importance of Tourism and it’s impact on the international community, our proud Amitians organized various programs as a part of the celebration of World Tourism Day in the School Auditorium. The celebrations commenced with the thought of the day as – “The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page”. The assembly which was a visual treat for the audience sensitised the kids about the social, cultural, political and economic value of Tourism. A zestful and vibrant ramp walk by the new seven Wonders of the World mesmerized everyone. No one could resist tapping their feet and clapping their hands for the vibrant dance performance which took the auditorium by storm! The main aim of the event was to foster awareness on the impact of Tourism on the development of all, from individuals to industries and countries altogether! The celebrations ended with the educative insights shared by Principal Ma’am which inspired all the students!

Janmashtami is one of the most sought-after Hindu festivals that marks the birth of Lord Krishna, who is also considered as an avatar of Lord Vishnu. There is festivity amongst all the Krishna devotees in the world and is extravagantly celebrated. The young Amitians of the primary wing at AIS Mohali also celebrated the birth of ‘Kaanha’ with great pomp and show. The Extravaganza started with singing ‘bhajans’, dance and live performances dedicated to the god. The entire audience experienced a wonderful day in the program which was given a delightful ending by the worthy Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar who shared her inspiring message that motivated students to challenge themselves by stepping out of their comfort zones and also to keep strong and make a mark with their strong presence everywhere they go

A hands-on activity based on Multiplication tables has been assigned to the students of grade 5 in which students are supposed to make Multiplication Spinner required to learn the tables in interesting and gamified way. . It was an individual activity. Students have enjoyed it very much and learn the tables easily .

A few minutes of Yoga during the day can be a great way to get rid of stress that accumulates daily, in both, body and the mind. Yoga postures, Pranayama and meditation are effective techniques to release stress. With this aim in mind, a session began by seeking the blessings of the Almighty by chanting the Gayatri Mantra.Asanas starting with warming up and stretching were followed by a series of Padmasanas, Sukhasan, Tadasana, BhujangAsana and ending with Shavasana. Exercises for relieving stress, reducing joint pain and enhancing the flexibility of the back were also done for the benefit of the students.

The National Sports Day of India was celebrated at Amity International School, Mohali wherein the school paid a tribute to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. World Population Day is an annual event, celebrated on 11th day of July to raise awareness of global population issues. The Day for celebration has been established under the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme. The day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the students of Amity International School, Mohali. A special assembly was organised where the students were explained the benefits of both nuclear family and joint family system. A PPT was shown to the students depicting the population rate, rise/fall in global population. Various important facts about the celebration of World Population Day were shared including how and to what extent the rapidly growing population of human beings is affecting nature in different ways. The assembly ended with the eloquent words of the Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar. She applauded the efforts of the students and urged the students to become good citizens and imbibe good values and ethics in their lives.

The students, adorned in yellow attires, relished delicious yellow meals in their tiffins and explored various, yellow-coloured objects. The tiny tots enhanced their motor skills amidst a variety of hands-on learning activities such as lion headgear, colouring, etc.

Students of grade IV made a model of the anatomy of mouth using materials like clay and paper by discussing, planning, creating and honing their designing and thinking skills. This activity helped them in understanding the anatomy of upper and lower jaw in detail.

In order to reinforce learning, a science practical was performed by the inquisitive students of Grade 9. The enthusiastic students classified reactions as either physical changes or chemical changes by the burning of a magnesium ribbon in the air. This facilitated the understanding of the concepts taught in the classroom. They learnt that a new substance is formed after the reaction, indicating that the change that took place was a chemical change. The substance formed, basic in nature, was then tested with Red Litmus paper.

In order to reinforce learning, a science practical was performed by the inquisitive students of Grade 9. The enthusiastic students classified reactions as either physical changes or chemical changes by the burning of a magnesium ribbon in the air. This facilitated the understanding of the concepts taught in the classroom. They learnt that a new substance is formed after the reaction, indicating that the change that took place was a chemical change. The substance formed, basic in nature, was then tested with Red Litmus paper.

In efforts to honour their valuable work, our enthusiastic kindergarten students appreciated all the community helpers who provide their tireless services to us in our day-to-day lives. They demonstrated their classroom learning by dressing up as different community helpers such as policemen, doctors, fire-fighters, chefs, vegetable-vendors, air hostesses, painters, etc. A JAM session was also held wherein they paid gratitude to them. It was an event of great thrill, excitement and learning.

To incorporate this theme, the students of Grade II conducted an assembly on 'Healthy Food Habits', highlighting the importance of healthy food in today's life. The students acted as the food groups which form the components of a balanced diet for good health. The young enthusiasts made use of innovative props to show the importance of positive healthy living.

In the next phase of Stem Activity - Design a raft and testing the rafts; the students of Grade 6 were motivated to make modifications in their rafts. They modelled the engineering design process in innovative ways and used the scientific method and critical thinking to complete their designs. The Raft Competition was held to test the raft that could hold the maximum number of pennies. Upon completion of the construction and testing, the results were discussed.

Aerodynamic forces are important for a model rocket. Our enthusiastic Amitians explored the mechanics of aerodynamic design and math applications as they built and launched their very own paper rockets. All the students took part in the activities and took initiative with great enthusiasm.

Keeping up the spirit of India’s pride, valour and steadfast leadership, students of AIS Mohali hosted a special assembly to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas. On this patriotic occasion, Amitians remembered the exemplary courage of our brave soldiers who responded to the intrusion with ‘Operation Vijay’, fighting battles on rugged terrains and fought back from a position of disadvantage to recapture territories occupied by the opponent. To show respect and gratitude to our brave soldiers who gave up their present for our future, the students impersonated the heroes of the war. Col. Upkar Singh Virk (retd.), Asst Director (Admin), delivered a motivational speech on the occasion honouring the soldiers who, with their indomitable courage, drove off the enemy from the inaccessible hills of Kargil and hoisted the tricolor there again.

International Tiger Day often called Global Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29th July. To promote this, cause our little Amitians Grade I conducted a special assembly on 'Save Tigers' and shared important facts about the tigers and their pivotal role in maintaining and balancing ecosystem. They expressed how these magnificent creatures are on the verge of extinction and if we don't join our hands to save them, they'll become extinct soon. With a spectacular play and dance showcasing the pitiful life of tiger, the students encouraged their fellow friends to raise awareness about conserving the wildlife. In the end our worthy Principal Mrs. Urvashi Kakkar congratulated the students for their showcase and reiterated the message to save the wildlife.

To inculcate this thought in everybody’s mind and to bring it in practice , Children of Grade III A of Amity International School, Mohali conducted a special assembly. Students presented a poem and few interesting facts on how plastic is polluting the environment. This beautiful showcase apprised all with harmful effects of plastic. Threading beads is a great activity to help children develop fine motor skills essential for drawing, writing, tying shoelaces, sharing etc. This activity also helps in improving visual perceptual, visual motor, eye hand coordination and cognitive skills. “A parent is a teacher at home and a teacher is a parent in school and the child is the centre of our universe.” Student orientation programme plays an important role in a student’s transition from a junior grade to the higher one. Orientation programmes are aimed at familiarizing the students with the new environment, its faculties and infrastructure. It enables them to make essential connection with studies and develop network among other peers. “Where will be my classroom? What will be my majors, what is the course structure?” Umpteen numbers of questions loom in the minds of students when they start their new session. The senior wing of Amity International School, Mohali organized an orientation programme in March 2022, for the new set of parents to familiarize them, “as partners in progress” with the curriculum, rules and regulations of the school, teaching methodologies and the co-scholastic activities, under the able guidance of the Founder President, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan and the Chairperson, Mrs. Amita Chauhan. Welcoming parents to the new academic session, Principal Mrs. Urvashi Kakkar spoke at length about the benefits of effective communication between parents and teachers. She even sought support and suggestions from the parents to provide best education and growth opportunities to the children of the school and shared a few tips on good parenting. Moving further, she also reiterated about different ways of nurturing a child with love and care to build a strong foundation for a glorious future, with both the parents and teachers setting an example for them. The parents were briefed about the rules and regulations of the school. Later, respective teachers gave an overview of the various subjects and the activities which would be undertaken in the year ahead. Not to forget, the co-scholastic activities were also discussed that gave the parents an idea of the curriculum which is self-directed with hands-on learning activities that not only give our students a medium to fully utilize their creative talents and energies, but also help them in their holistic development. The orientation programme proved to be a sincere effort made by the school in educating the parents to look after and guide their children in a proper manner. It also helped in evolving a common teaching strategy and helped the parents in identifying suitable follow up methods to reinforce the learning process of their children.

Activities at AIS Mohali are included to encourage the aspiring students to use STEM skills to explore the topic. The young learners of Grade V were instructed to organize factual information about a migratory animal of their choice based on their research. Poems, Slogans and Posters- along with the three R’s- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle- marked the celebration of Earth Day at AIS Mohali. “Let’s love the earth as you love yourself and make our Earth a better place to live in.” With this thought, the campus of Amity International School, Mohali, reverberated with excitement and enthusiasm and Amitians were all geared up to show their love for the mother Earth on the occasion of the Earth Day. The students were sensitized towards the importance of the day during the special assembly, followed by a dance performance by Grade I students. Primary grade students recited a few heart-whelming poems. Grade-III learners showcased their creativity by making the best out of waste and presenting their products during the assembly. Later the students made startling posters and slogans. The main aim of the event was to motivate and spread the awareness among the blooming Amitians to adapt to sustainable living by recycling and reusing the resources and to save the planet for better coexistence with other species. Principal Ms. Urvashi Kakkar applauded the students' efforts for the enthusiastic participation and instilled the thought in every Amitian that ‘The Earth does not belong to us; we belong to the earth’ and it is our moral responsibility to keep it safe for the generations to come.

The school organised a special assembly on Prerna Divas, a landmark day for Amtians as it is the birthday of Dr. Amita Chauhan, The Chairperson of Amity group. The day was celebrated with beautiful performances by the students . Music, dance and joy filled the ambience. The major highlights of the day were, Pushpanjali Bharatanatyam, an inspirational poem in Hindi, a motivational thought and multi linguistic self-composed poems in English, Hindi, Punjabi and French. The principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar apprised the students of the selfless life of Amita Ma'am and motivated them to follow her footsteps.

'What causes seasons?' Through a live demonstration using a ball and torch, the enthusiastic learners of Grade II explored the reason of change in seasons through the movement of the Earth around the Sun. They inferred the effect of sunlight reaching the Earth and causing change of seasons. The learners also understood that earth's revolution around the sun is responsible for the change of seasons wherein both Northern and Southern Hemispheres experience different Seasons.

One Nation, one vison, one identity-India To instill the spirit of Patriotism and keep the glory of Tricolour high, the children of Kindergarten celebrated Republic Day by making Tricolour Sandwiches. Children made pinwheel sandwiches with red and green sauce and honed their culinary skills. They relished their tempting sandwiches and learnt about the significance of each colour in our National Flag.

Sensory Fun with letter V To help the children recognize and identify the letter ’v’ a 'Volcano Model' making activity was organised using clay that represented molten lava and small balls of clay that represented rocks. It was done as a part of extended learning activity of letter 'v'. The activity aimed at enhancing the vocabulary and improving fine motor skills of students.

The simple act of throwing a ball back and forth, is the most basic throwing game. But to make it more engaging, a cone catcher activity was organized, during which the students made paper cones and crushed paper balls. Catching the ball in the cone was the aim of the activity. The students thoroughly enjoyed playing the game virtually with their family members and had lot of fun. The activity focused on improving the eye-hand coordination and motor skills.

Number names-One to seven Learning Number Names with Hands - A 'Cloudy Rainbow' activity was conducted as part of extended learning for 'Number Names 1-7, for the children of Kindergarten. The children were explained the sequence of seven colours of the rainbow through the acronym VIBGYOR. The children pasted the coloured strips on the cutout of a paper cloud and wrote number names for 1-7, on these colourful strips. The children enhanced their Visual, Spatial and Mathematical skills along with enhancing their fine motor skills, with this innovative activity.

The students and faculty dressed in yellow, the colour that symbolizes positivity, added vibrance to the virtual celebrations. Our amazing Amitians Vamsi and Vanshika added aesthetic charm to the joyous occasion with their graceful dance on the song 'Ritu Basant ki Aayi.' Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar motivated the students to imbibe all the qualities that Mother Nature teaches us through the recurring cycle of seasons, so that they feel empowered to overcome all challenges of life with tenacity.

To stimulate and introduce measurement to the students of Grade 3 at Amity International School, Mohali a hands-on activity was conducted wherein the students were explained the traditional measurement techniques and modern techniques in estimating and measuring various objects or lengths using standardized units of measurement. The students measured their height using a measuring tape, notebooks using scales and cubic span to measure their tables and other objects in their room. The activity intended to enhance the understanding and application of units of measurement, academically and in real life situations.

Winston Churchill After the poem ‘No Men Are Foreign’ was taught in literature to the students of Grade 9, the students were able to develop a perspective as young citizens of the world, who aspire to make the world a peaceful and better place to live in. The students were told to read ‘John Brown’ as extended reading for the topic. Thereafter, a debate was held in the class wherein the students came up with some thought provoking ideas about the destruction caused by war. The students were able to structure their thoughts while also developing their analytical and research skills.

Sun has been a source of both spirituality and vitality on the Earth since time immemorial. Its significance can be traced from Mayan, Egyptian, Aztec, Tibetan, and Indian civilizations to the ones that emerged later. The Ministry of Education, Govt. of India had intimated that under the banner "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" the national Yogasana Sports Federation had decided to run a project 750 million Surya Namaskar from 10th Jan 2022. Following the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, the staff and students of Amity International School, Mohali organized the traditional yogic warm up of twelve linked asanaas – Surya Namaskar on 16th January 2022. As believed by the ancient Yogis, sun is the source of life on earth and paying respect to the sun can result in good health. This smooth transition between the poses helps one concentrate and focus and can have a marked effect on the creativity and focus levels of the children. Among many benefits of Surya Namaskar, a few prominent ones are that it helps you balance between the right and left sides of the brain, improved memory power, concentration, physical strength, enhancing learning capacity along with a being in a happy state of well -being.

Mathematics Activity Board Games give students opportunities to explore fundamental number concepts and computation strategies. A gamified project was assigned to the students of grade V and VI wherein they created a Board Game applying mathematical computations and devised the rules of the game. This activity gave the children an opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts along with boosting their mathematical, analytical, logical reasoning, spatial and problem solving skills. The Board Game also encouraged students to explore number combinations, place value, patterns, and other important mathematical concepts. .

To develop a scientific temperament and for providing the students with opportunities to observe, analyse experiment and deduce results, students of Grade VI were introduced to the world of simulation while introducing the topic Electric Circuit. With the help of simulation, the Learners not only learnt the various components of circuit and how they can be efficiently connected to create the flow of electric current but also perceived the concept of OPEN and CLOSED circuit.

Amity International School, Mohali celebrated the 73rd Republic Day with pride and reverence to infuse the spirit of unity and patriotism among the students. The students of the senior wing enthusiastically made beautiful tri colour themed rangolis to celebrate this day of National Importance. The students showcased their creativity by making beautiful patriotic rangoli patterns using our national signs and symbols.

The Animal Kingdom is constantly being put in danger by humans for their own selfish needs. To strike an ecological balance we need to ensure that we live in harmony with each of these wonderful creatures created by God. Grade I Amitians were guided to present a Role Play ‘Guess who’s wild’. The role play aimed to raise awareness and imbibe a sense of empathy and compassion towards animals. The tiny tots presented themselves as an animal or a poacher, wearing face masks of animals like a snake, peacock, elephant, donkey, tiger etc. and a toy gun and a hat for the poacher. The Role Play showcased different wild animals running in the jungle seeking for help before being chased and hunted for their skin, tusk, feathers, skin, etc. Post the role play, majority of the students expressed their opinion that more than the animals and birds, it’s the ruthless killer, the man who is wilder! The role play not only sensitized the students towards necessary rights for the wild animals but also honed their dramatization skills and laid the foundation to argue for and against the view.

Imagination is the highest kite that can fly! To reinforce the concept of ‘fractions’, the creative learners of Amity Grade II made bright coloured kites using fractions. This activity helped them understand the part-whole relationships and the representation of fractions using numerators and denominators. The intent of this activity was to acquaint the students with the usage of fractions in an artistic manner and was attained as the students were completely engrossed in preparing their colourful ‘Fraction Kites.

“Defeat and failure are sometimes necessary steps of victory” – Lala Lajpat Rai To pay homage to one of the most eminent freedom fighter, a social activist, an educationist Lala Lajpat Rai, a talk show – “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav “was conducted at Amity International School, Mohali, to enlighten the students about the ideologies and contributions of the famous Freedom fighter of India and to celebrate his birth anniversary. A documentary on Lala Lajpat Rai was also shown to kindle the fire of patriotism, love for one’s country and educate the students about the sacrifices made by him for his country. Students of grade VIII spoke about the contributions of Lala Lajpat Rai in attaining Independence of India. Students and teachers actively participated in the talk show with great zeal and enthusiasm. Principal Urvashi Kakkar encouraged the students to follow the philosophy, teachings and beliefs of Lala Lajpat Rai.

AMITIANS of Grade 8 enthusiastically participated in a Chatbot Creation Activity by working on Snatchbot.me . Through this Artificial Intelligence (AI)software the students created an automated(bot) or Human (Human Hybrid) chatbot. The chatbot had a Welcome Interaction and it provided responses. It was an intellectually stimulating session for the students.

The First Session of ‘Talk with Diplomats’, a brainchild of our respected Chairperson ma’am was launched under the aegis of Amity Educational Resource Centre. It was hosted by Amity International School Mayur Vihar, Delhi. The aim of the programme was to provide global exposure to the Amitians, build holistic perspective towards international affairs and nurture leadership qualities so that they prove to be valuable assets to their nation and bring positive changes in their country as well as the world. In the Interactive session with student panelists, H.E. Ms. Mateja Vodeb Ghosh dealt upon several topics regarding Slovenia - India's relationship and also about pressing issues like Climate Change. Grade VIII student, Kaavya Kumar of Amity International School, Mohali was also one of the panelists.

TALK WITH DIPLOMATS

3-D Model of Structure of Atom: Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion-Democritus Nobel Prize winner Sir William Henry Bragg quoted that the atoms may be compared to the letters of the alphabet, which can be put together in innumerable ways to form words just like the atoms are combined in diverse variety to form molecules. To understand the structure of an ‘ATOM’, Grade IX students made 3-D models. They used material found around them such as different colors of balls, unused wires, colourful wool, cardboard etc. to create the same. This interesting activity helped student understand the concept of shells, difference between different subatomic particles and the arrangement of electrons in the shells. This developed a deeper understanding of the concept and encouraged them to think deeply about this very important scientific concept.

STRUCTURE OF ATOM

A session on 'Don't Blame your Distractions, Improve your focus' was taken by the School Doctor and the School Counselor. Distraction is something that can be easily blamed for losing our focus. However, dealing with the distractions is the important bit. The importance of being focused was discussed followed by some exercises on how to increase focus. The students enjoyed the session and learnt few techniques which will help them increase their concentration.

IMPROVE YOUR FOCUS

'Elocution is an acquired art of speech.' Considering the significance of the same, AIS Mohali runs English Elocution classes in the Primary Wing with the subject expert Ms. Aarti Arora. To gauge the skills acquired during the year, a virtual annual Elocution showcase was conducted for Grades I-III on 17th and 18th February 2022 wherein the blooming Amitians presented themselves, wearing vibrant costumes and using props, in accordance with the topic chosen by them. It rightly helped in achieving the very objective of elocution, i.e., to improve the communication, diction, and general speaking skills of the budding orators with proper tone, rhythm, pronunciation, delivery, voice modulation and overall presentation of the Language, in its spoken form. The young and gifted orators won the hearts of all and sundry, not only of the senior guest faculty from the school English Department but also of the worthy Principal who was more than happy with the way the tiny tots presented themselves during the showcase and applauded the efforts of the students, teachers and parents alike. The confidence, expression and talent of the young ones made the event truly memorable.

“We see the moon in phases but it’s always whole.” The moon appears to change its shape every night. The matter of fact is that we see only that part of the moon which is lit up by the sun. The other part which is dark cannot be seen. Thus, sometimes we see the full moon and the other times only a fragment of it. The different shapes of moon are called the phases of moon, which was represented ingeniously by the creative learners of Grade I using Oreo cream biscuits. They used the edge of the fork to draw a line down the centre of the icing, carefully scraping off half the icing. On similar lines, the students learnt the concept of waxing, gibbous,quarter and crescent moon. They also learnt that when the moon completes its orbit its back to new. Through this activity, the young Amitians learnt the moon phases with this simple moon craft activity and delicious snacking at the same time!

“When you can measure what you are speaking about and express it in numbers, you know something about it.” The young learners of grade II, learnt about weight measurement through an interesting hands-on activity. They innovatively designed weighing scales using disposable cups, hanger, string or ribbon to understand the utility of a weighing balance in the weight measurement of an object. The curious Amitians were more than thrilled to have designed their own weighing scale to determine the weight of different things around them and understanding the difference between heavy or light, from their daily usage items in units of grams or kilograms. "Earth is what we have in common". The young learners of grade I experienced the diversity of different landforms on earth through Landform Diorama Project using colourful clay to create Mountains, hills, plateaus, and plains as the four major types of landforms. Through this hand-on activity the learners gained knowledge and appreciation of the splendid natural beauty of our planet Earth. The activity also enhanced their visual, spatial, and fine motor skills and encouraged team and play based learning amongst students.

The enthusiastic learners of grade II keenly examined the food factories of a plant - leaves, which are the most important part of the plant. They recollected and discussed the importance of leaves for all living beings and plants and were elated to learn different types of leaf structures in terms of size, colour, shape, and seasonal importance. The young learners explored ‘flame’ while demonstrating the importance of oxygen for it to keep burning. The students of grade III used a transparent glass to cover the burning flame and observe it getting blown off. “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” To inculcate compassion among the students of grade II, an amazing seed germination activity was performed with the help of vegetable seeds, water, and soil, followed by an explanation of the process of germination and photosynthesis in detail. Festivals are special occasions which brings back numerous memories, fosters love and brotherhood also spreads happiness all around. Students of Amity International School, Mohali celebrated the winter Punjabi folk festival with exuberance and fervor in the special morning assembly on Lohri via virtual background. The students of the senior wing dressed in traditional attire recited poems, sang songs, performed dance and explained the significance of the festival. Principal Mrs. Urvashi Kakkar appreciated the stupendous effort by the educators and learners for planning, exhibiting and celebrating festivals that keep our culture and tradition alive.

Triangles make excellent animal craft! Beautiful and colourful triangular shaped fish and dog were made by the grade I students. The young learners were thus not only apprised with the shape of a triangle but also the various properties like sides, corners, edges and angles of a triangle, through the hands-on activity learning experience.

Creating a Bug The students of Class KG participated in a activity-Creating a bug for number name six where they made spiders with bread slices and put tomatoes and cucumbers slices in between. They made six legs with the help of carrot sticks/Kurkure. The kids were so engrossed in this activity and enjoyed every bit of it. This was a fun way to make them learn about the concept of number name six.

CREATING A BUG

We preserve the essence of our festivals. The Lohri festival is celebrated to bid adieu to the winter season and to welcome the harvest season. In the light of this vibrant festival we celebrated lohri using colour mixing experiment that involved the use of different colours, Earbuds and some paper cutouts. . The activity aimed at introducing primary and secondary colours to our little ones.

Let us cheer, winter is here! Our grade 2 students crafted beautiful snowflakes ? craft using pieces of white chalks, cotton balls and A4 sheets. The students rolled the cotton finely to make balls and pasted as the outline of snowflakes. The activity aimed at boosting the fine motor skills and improving the hand-eye coordination of the young learners who enhanced the beauty of the craft by incorporating their creative ideas to it

Sacred Heart Sr. Sec. School organized the SDG Summit 2022 held from 14th to 16th January, 2022 with over 800+ Part-takers, 35+ Institutions and 100+ Winners. AIS Mohali Aspirant Learning from grade III TO GRADE VIII also participated into four events which were SHSMUN 2022, Jus A Minute, Poster Making Competition and Speech Competition. Ms. Mihika Sharma who was the participated in SHSMUN 2022 in Open Forum Committee as a Delegate of Argentina has been awarded as High Commendation. It was a good learning experience for the students to be a part of such a big event.

SDG SUMMIT

Mental Health is not a destination but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you are going. As educators, we at AIS Mohali believe that mental health is just as important as physical health since it includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. To improve the mental health of our blooming primary grade Amitians, the school doctor, Dr. Gagandeep Kaur apprised them with some useful tips, viz. having healthy eating habits, eight hours of sleep and physical exercise. The very theme of the session - 'You are the author of your own book', seemed to be rightly achieved as the young learners took a pledge to act pragmatically towards attaining better mental health.

Students of Grade III where involved in a nature craft activity which gave them lots of opportunities to develop their creative and analytical thinking whilst engaging with nature and learning about natural wildlife around them. They enjoyed making the nest and added few eggs which were made of colourful clay, thus improving their fine motor skills.

"Time is the most valuable coin in our life and it is limited so we must make a good use of it". To understand the concept of time in a fruitful manner, the blooming Amitians of grade I performed a hands-on activity in which they created beautiful models of clock. The learners thus not only enhanced their kinesthetic skills, imagination but also learned to value time since ‘Time and tide wait for none.’

Indian culture is the most complex and colouful culture on the planet. The way people look, their language, their food, their way of dressing, and their music and dance- everything changes over fifty or hundred kilometers in this country. We, at Amity Education, firmly believe that learning should be beyond boundaries. Even though our learners are confined to their homes due to pandemic; Amity International School (AIS) Mohali is focusing and striving to provide continuous and enriching learning experience for its young Amitians. Ensuing the vision of our Chairperson Dr. Amita Chauhan who aspires every Amitian to be a Global Citizen, who is ready to excel in any career they choose to pursue. Working towards realising this vision, Amity International School students participated in the Online Student Exchange programme based on the Harvesting festivals celebrated across India. The Exchange Programme was hosted by Birla High School – Mukundanpur for two consecutive days i.e 17th and 18th of January on the virtual platforms in which different schools from North, South, East and West regions of India collaborated. The two days’ programme was specially curated in a way that the Primary Graders were given a chance to explore and understand different cultures and traditions. Amitians from Grade I-V, dressed in their regional attires gave presentations which included power packed role plays and folk dances from Punjab, Rajasthan and South. Hymns were sung by the students in Punjabi to Praise the Lord and not to forget journey from field to table in making the delicacy of famous Punjabi dish – Mustard Greens (Makki Ki roti and sarso ka Saag). Educators at AIS Mohali concede that this platform will also propel our students in understanding different cultural and community perspectives. The School Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar was elated to see the enthusiastic performances by the primary grade Amitians. Amity is known for its global learning practices and this endeavour is one of those initiatives. The Principal congratulated the students and the educators who participated in the Cultural Exchange Programme.

Zinnia craft Flowers depict the true essence of childhood. Our Grade Nursery students crafted beautiful Zinnia flowers using yellow paper bits. It was done as an extended learning activity for letter z where the students discovered a different kind of flower.

Amity International School Celebrated Indian Army Day by honouring the selfless fighters of the country who have set the biggest examples by risking their lives for the motherland. Children spoke thought of the day, word of the day related to Army Day and had speech to honour our brave soldiers who are the reason behind our pride, our smiles. Colonel Upkar Singh, an Army Veteran and School Administrator recalled the glorious events that he faced during Operation Vijay. Our Amitian was filled with gratitude for these army men and felt proud of Indian Army.

It is rightly said-'Freedom is the dream of every eye. Freedom is the toil of every hand.' India became a sovereign nation, free from British rule, owing to the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, and its Constitution came into effect on 26th January, 1950, again due to the toil of many. To commemorate this glorious event, the young Amitians of the Primary grades presented a Role Play in their mother tongue, representing Indian Constitution and its significance. Besides, they also showcased their patriotism by dancing and singing the Patriotic song ‘Mera mulk, mera desh mera ye vatan’, thus leaving the audience filled with patriotic feelings.

REPUBLIC DAY

An absorbing activity helps the children to focus at the task at hand. Masks can be fun, mysterious and even scary. Actually, when a mask is made and worn for the first time, a new character is born. The young learners of Grade II participated enthusiastically in making masks activity of their favourite animals as a part of ‘Show and Tell’ Activity. Creative learners made beautiful animal face masks and also shared some amazing facts about their favourite animals. This activity rightly proved to be a rewarding and creative process.

Be kind, be thoughtful, be genuine! But most of all, be thankful! What else can be a better way to celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year than the Thanksgiving Day! Thanksgiving Day is commemorated on the fourth Thursday of November to thank God for providing us food to eat and blessing us with such a lovely life. The Primary Grade Amitians at AIS, Mohali celebrated the same with much pomp and show. Besides an inspirational thought, a beautiful poem was also recited by the young learners during the celebration. A video was also shown to the students so that they could imbibe the value of gratitude in their daily life. Thanksgiving is truly a one-of-a-kind occasion and AIS, Mohali used this day to thank the Almighty for His countless gifts.

A Science experiment-'Nature Study' was conducted for the students of Class KG on 24th November 2021, Wednesday as a part of extended learning for living and Non-living things. The little Einsteins headed to their gardens and lawns with magnifying glasses and containers. They observed the magnificence of Mother Nature with the help of magnifying glass and observed various living and non-living things. They caught bugs and ants in a container and observed them move. They collected stones, twigs etc. in another container and observed the difference between living and non-living things. This activity proved to break the monotony as kids enjoyed stepping out and trying their hands on various stuff around them. The kids learnt to differentiate between living and non-living things in a playful manner.

It was time to make the hands of our kiddos stronger so that cutting gets easier for them. The art of cutting is a continuous motion of your thumb and fingers moving up and down while pushing the scissor blades open and shut. On top of that, the paper provides resistance against the scissors. Our students created a Zig-Zag pattern on rectangular sheets using safety scissors. They observed and followed the pattern to create perfect cutouts, while giving their tiny hands a gentle workout!

Birds are beautiful creatures, and they contribute immensely to the ecosystem. Our little Amitians of Grade Nursery decided to serve these winged wonders in a humane manner by creating wonderful eco-friendly bird feeders using toilet paper roll and ribbons. The students pasted lentils and grains on these for the birds to eat. They were so excited about the craft that they expressed their desire to hang it on trees ?????? and enjoy the sight of different birds relishing the grains. The activity aimed at letting the students develop a feeling of love and compassion for these cute and innocent creatures.

The students joyfully indulged in a deeply engrossing 'Craft Activity' curated for them. The creative procedure included pasting and tracing handprints on colourful sheets. The beautiful smiles on the young and innocent faces, while they indulged in their creative pursuit were enough to add cheer to our mundane lives.

'Freedom in mind and words, Pride in our hearts, Memories in our souls; let’s salute our heroes on the Navy Day!' 'Indian Navy Day' acts as a reminder of the valour and sacrifice of all our heroes who stand strong to keep our country safe. Children of today are the future of the nation and it becomes important for the educational stakeholders to acquaint the children with the Defence Forces of the country and to also motivate them to become Defence officers in the future. The young Amitians of Primary Wing conducted a special assembly to pay tribute to the guardians of the sea on Navy Day. The students were acquainted with the challenges faced by the naval heroes and their significance and were also encouraged to join the Armed Forces when they grow up and become responsible citizens of the nation.

ntra Class DIY Competition Model building is a great way to open the world of design, science, and math which enhances the problem-solving skills of students. This is a great way to help them prepare for the “real world” and helps them develop skills they will use in future, and that is what Amity International School, Mohali aims at. An Intra-class DIY Model making competition was conducted for the students of Grades 4 to 9. The students participated with great zeal and presented ideas which were out-of-box. They also addressed the Sustainable Development Goals. Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar, judged the. She not only appreciated their ideas, which addressed real world issues but also motivated them to further work on those which could be presented across a broader spectrum.

They actively participated in an interactive session on Human life cycle and were later drawn into a hands-on activity where they explained the process of metamorphosis and made colourful stages of the life cycle of butterfly.

Fast Doubles: Grade - I Know more about the addends that are exactly the same!!! Teaching 'Doubles Addition' can be super fun in the classroom! A hands-on learning experience by creating 'Fast Doubles Bugs' helped the blooming Amitians of Grade I by giving them double benefits. They not only learnt the amazing fact of addition of fast doubles but also honed their creativity. This also helped to imbibe into them the habit of committing numerical facts to their long-term memory from an early age.

It is a way to express our gratitude to our loved ones by wishing them, the gift of faith and the blessing of hope. Amity family believes in philanthropy which is not just preached but practiced too. On the occasion of the birthday of our Honorable Chair person / president Dr. Ashok Chauhan, Amitians maintained their tradition of sharing the happiness with others by celebrating the 'Joy of Giving' Week . The Principal, Mrs.Urvashi Kakkar, along with the School Administrator Col.Virk and other staff members visited the Government School in Kumbra and Chandi Kusht Aashram, and shared some goodies and supplies with the inmates. On the occasion, our young Amitians took a pledge of gratitude and promised to spread happiness around them because only a contented soul can emit radiance and bring a smile to others.

Sponge Squeezing activity Time to hit the fine motor skills. Dabbing and squeezing is always fun. Our Grade Nursery students learnt the concept of ‘Full and Empty’ using Sponge-Squeezing activity. This activity focused on enhancing students' gripping power and fine motor skills. They dropped the sponge in a bowl of water and squeezed it into an empty bowl. It was great fun watching the students participating with great zeal.

A Spinning Phonics Wheel is a unique way to practice word endings and it is fun to create too! Initial blending of sounds becomes easy when learnt is this way. This activity aimed at enhancing the formative vocabulary of students and letting them take an initiative to blend the sounds and make words.

The objective of the activity was to apprise the students about blending in a way where they can spin and learn to make as many words as possible from the spinner and recognize initial, middle and ending sounds.

Our Grade Nursery students created a wonderful sea using paper and cut outs of water animals as a part of extended learning activity of their EVS chapter- ‘Water animals’ ??????. All Online and no Offline makes Jack a Dull Boy!! Amity International School, Mohali started offline classes in a staggered fashion. In the first phase, 'Brick and Mortar' school commenced for the students of Grades 6 to 9, with all due precautions for Covid-19.The School Campus looked resplendent as students walked in and found The Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar and the teachers welcoming them. Their joy knew no bounds as they attended the assembly and classes after a long lull. The classes were planned in such a manner that the students got a taste of the things they had been missing during online classes. Physical Activities, Sports, Lab Activities, Library Sessions and Cultural activities were incorporated into the timetable to ensure their holistic development and to ensure that the students could make the most of the time they spent with their peers and teachers. While all this fun and buzz took place, safety, of course, remained the priority for all the mentors. The School has made a mark for itself since its inception during the never-seen-before lockdown, and a new milestone was traversed this week, as AIS,Mohali transcended from Online to Offline!

Car-Making activity-Number name ‘four’ The students of Class KG participated in a Car Making Activity as a part of extended learning in Mathematics for the concept of number ‘four’. They made cars out of toilet rolls and painted them. They wrote the number name ‘four’ on all its wheels. This proved to be an interesting way to teach them the number names. Ginger Bread Man Help the Gingerbread Man grow! It is rightly said, 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained! 'The Gingerbread Adjective Man Activity, taken up keenly by the Primary Graders proved to be a great learning experience. The young Amitians shared their rich vocabulary and knowledge of 'Describing Words' on a 'Gingerbread Adjective Man' created by them. They had a great time, doing the hands-on activity and exploring new words.

Origami lessons help to develop hand-eye coordination and attention to detail, encourage peer support and foster relationship building. The young learners of primary grades used the paper folding activity to understand fractions. This activity helped to support and enhance geometrical reasoning and mathematical learning amongst the young ones!

‘Out of the Box’- that is how Amitians think! Our students Saksham Bassi and Natansh Bassi created indoor games out of the waste materials. The students were expected to create board games by up-cycling discarded material. It was a venture of ‘Zero Waste Living’ which is promoted at AIS, Mohali. Our young learners accepted the challenge to create something for entertainment which would engage people without emitting toxins into the environment. The students created two innovative and interesting board games, which could be played with 2-4 players. The game, which was designed, was not only engaging for the kids but also had grown -ups glued to it.

Young learners at Amity International School, Mohali were apprised of the various personal and professional consequences of Plagiarism in academia with the help of an interactive virtual session. Students also had an insight on the societal impact of Information Technology and how Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn and think. It not only added to our students’ social responsibility skills but also helped in honing their logical thinking as well as analytical and reasoning skills

Flashcards are an incredibly versatile study tool which can be used for learning at any age. Their universal nature makes it easy to learn various concepts for nearly any subject! The ambitious learners of Grade I were more than happy making beautiful flash cards using cardboard pieces. They created colourful flash cards depicting the gender of various common nouns like - king-queen, mother-father, uncle-aunt etc. They were on cloud nine flaunting their colourful artefacts displaying their creativity. This proved to be an effective activity that appealed to visual learners as well as kinesthetic letters

Grade I

The best way to make students learn a concept is to give them something enjoyable to do. Our Amitians of Grade 4 performed an activity of making pies using paper plates. The activity was designed to teach the concept of fractions to beginners. Students enjoyed to the core and learnt the concept very well. Their pies were 'WHOLE-some', literally!

It is seen as the end of evil and is an elaborate festival, celebrated with much pomp and show throughout the country. The Primary Wing of Amity International School, Mohali celebrated Dussehra to mark the culmination of the nine-day Navaratri celebrations with oodles of ardor. The ardent learners presented beautiful thoughts and poems based on the story of the Ramayana. Through the celebration, they learnt that our rich Indian mythology has always celebrated the victory of light over dark, truth over lies and good over evil. The Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar applauded the efforts of the students and emphasized that Dussehra celebrates not just the victory of Lord Rama but the victory of whole mankind. She encouraged the students to introspect and conquer the evil that lies within each one of us in myriad forms.

During the French classes, the students of Grade 8 learnt the names of the months. They drew pictures depicting specific events related to each month on a chart paper. This was a part of Art-Integrated Learning wherein the students were able to remember whatever they had learnt in an easier and fun-filled fashion.

‘This is my garden, I’ll tend it with care. Here are the seeds I’ll plant in there. The sun will shine. The rain will fall. The seeds will sprout and grow up tall!’ To give the tiny tots hands-on experience and to inculcate knowledge about plant growth and the things plants need to grow, an experiment on seed germination was conducted for the students of Class KG, wherein they put some split chickpea lentils and green grams (whole) wrapped in cotton soaked in water inside a glass and placed it in a sunny area for two days. The little ones were amazed to see how the seeds had started sprouting. They penned down their observations for the next day as well to note the process of plant growth and learnt that sunlight, water, air and soil are necessary for a plant to grow.

It is rightly said- opposites attract! Our cute angels of Grade Nursery were seen getting overjoyed as they created ‘Monsters’ as a post-concept activity of letter ‘m’. They excitedly searched every nook and corner of their homes in the quest of spooky material to make their monsters look scary. The fun activity was aimed at making the students well acquainted with the sound of the letter and corresponding objects.

Having a plant in the house is like having a friend around. To emphasize the importance of plants and to impart knowledge to our little ones about the types of plants around us, a drawing activity was conducted for the students of KG, where they drew different types of plants namely Herbs, Shrubs, Climbers, Creepers and Trees in their sketch files. The students were happy to relate the knowledge with their surroundings and shared pictures of the plants in their houses. This activity helped enhance their fine-motor skills, eye-hand coordination and enhanced their vocabulary. The students learnt about the beautiful world of plants in a fun way.

Jumping in the letter pond is a fun way to learn letters and their sound. An activity was organised in Grade Pre-Nursery which enabled the students to get familiarized with the letters ‘c’ and ‘k’. The kids demonstrated a lot of interest in the activity and could relate to the letters. The activity had learning objectives beyond academics too. It helped the tiny tots to build body strength, increase balance and improve their eye-hand coordination.

A metal sorting activity was organized for Nursery students as a pre-concept activity of letter-m, as wherein they sorted different types of metals and learnt their names. It was an extended learning activity. As sorting and grouping things together is an important cognitive skill, the toddlers learnt to observe similarities and differences between objects, which would aid in the development of early literacy and numeracy skills as well.

‘Let us not forget to celebrate Food because it is our Lifeline.’ The Kindergarten Wing celebrated World Food Day in the class. The students came dressed up in the attire of the state allotted to them beforehand and showcased a special dish of that state. They all looked lovely in their attires and spoke zealously about their dish. It was a treat to the eyes and ears to watch and hear them speak.

'The only way to learn Mathematics is to do Mathematics!' Since Math is all about becoming a creative thinker, our little Amitians of Grade I showcased their creativity by performing an activity in which they made a ‘sunflower’ of skip counting by twos. All the learners feasted their eyes on the beautiful sunflowers made by their equally enthusiastic counterparts! This activity helped them not only in honing their fine motor skills but also in understanding the concept of skip counting.

Exploration of Solar system through Thumping Thumb printing activity - Art is a fun way to learn!! Grade II learners enhanced their knowledge about The Solar system through an interesting engagement named 'Thumping Thumb printing activity'. This craft activity helped the creative learners to remember the order of planets using thumb prints. It was an interactive session as the hands-on learning experience on planets caused quite a stir in the young learners besides honing their exploration into their own creativity, hand-eye coordination, muscle control and dexterity, enjoying each moment with glee.

'Think green and keep it clean' Our little 'Planet Protector', Samarth has a message to share with everyone as he believes that the earth belongs to us and we can make it more beautiful by initiating a step towards sustainable development by promoting a plastic -free culture in the world. Kudos to the young Amitian!

To enhance their knowledge about Digraph ‘sh’ and its sound /sh/, an activity ‘Making of a ship’ was organized for the students of Class KG wherein the students coloured the picture of a ship and wrote other words with /sh/ sound such as shell, mash, cash, shop etc. on paper strips and pasted them on the ship. This proved to be a fun way to make them learn Digraphs.

Definitely, there can be no smoke without fire. But there can be a cake made without baking. That's exactly what Grade -Pre nursery students did today in their Activity Room. Students made a cake with basic ingredients available at home like bread, cream biscuits, milk, sugar, and chopped dry fruits for dressing. It was a wonderful extended activity related to one of our Community helpers- BAKER. The activity was well enjoyed by the students where they stretched their imagination in dressing the cake beautifully.

A tribute to the Father of our Nation.... Our grade Nursery students learnt a new technique of making spectacles using newspaper/waste paper. They learnt the technique of folding the paper to form a stick and then joining it further to give it the look of spectacles. They also developed oneness with Gandhiji through the activity.

As is known to us, we celebrate National Nutrition Week with many social campaigns and innovative programs from September 1 to September 7 every year. This year, the theme is “Feeding smart right from start”. This is why, the educators teaching primary grades recommended loading up on healthy fruits and vegetables which boost up our immune health. The educators explained the importance of vegetables, fruits, carbohydrates, pulses and dairy products in our day-to-day life. The food groups were divided day wise and the nutrition provided by them was discussed in detail with the students. By the end of the week, the Amitians were more than happy to make their own diet plan and showcase the same with pride. The idea behind the activity was to empower the young aspirants and make them understand that all the nutrients are important to make a balanced diet which is a taste of good and healthy life! Thus, the very purpose of observing the National Nutrition Week was truly achieved!

Festivals build group cohesiveness. Festivals inform, educate and bring people together. Of all the festivals, Ganesh Chaturthi is the most vibrant one. People believe that Lord Ganesha removes all obstacles. With such belief, Amity International School, Mohali organized various activities on this auspicious occasion. The Primary and Kindergarten graders showcased their festive spirit by participating in the virtual assembly which was organised on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. They danced up to the tunes of 'O my friend Ganesha' and also sang Bhajans. During their Art and Craft lessons ,they drew beautiful images of the Lord! They prayed for happiness as big as Ganesha's appetite, life as long as his trunk, trouble as small as his mouse and moments as sweet as his laddoos!

Learning by doing is something we keep reiterating at Amity. What can be more entertaining than learning a Mathematical concept through hands on activity! Students of Amity International School, Mohali learnt a very important concept of Geometry, i.e. Angles, by doing an interesting activity. Students of Grade 4 and 5 made an ‘Angle Wheel’ using cardboard and sheets of thick paper whereas students of Grade 6 learnt the types of angles using popsicles and origami sheets. The pupils were able to create a visual representation of both arms in different type of angles. They had fun and enhanced their knowledge related to this basic concept, which would gear them up for higher classes.

Worldwide spread of COVID-19 brought about a dramatic decrease in industrial activities, road traffic and tourism. Restricted human interaction with nature during this crisis time appeared as a blessing for nature and environment. AayaanTuli, a student of Grade IV at Amity International School, Mohali also observed these amazing changes around him and prepared a 3-D model on sources of pollution to spread knowledge about its points of origin. He presented the model in front of his class mates andspoke about pollution of various kinds and its significant impact on the society. These efforts made by Ayaan proved to be a testament to the fact that robust ideas, when paired with an equally powerful practical approach can pave the path to a sustainable, environment-friendly future and can motivate others on the way.

To make the little ones understand the importance of Healthy living and healthy eating, an activity-Healthy snacks making was organized for the students of Class KG on 17th September 2021, Friday as a part of Kiddies Kichenette where they had to prepare any healthy snack of their choice and speak a few lines about it. The students came up with delicious looking snacks like vegetable sandwiches, poha, salad etc and presented their dish so well. This proved to be a fun way to make them learn by doing. The kids relished their snacks and had fun throughout.

Fruits are beautiful in their own right, but when they are carved or simply arranged in a different way, they look exquisite. A child’s food preferences may determine his future dietary habits. To inculcate love for fruits among students, we conducted Fruit Art activity with our Grade Nursery students where they arranged chopped fruits magnificently to embrace it with the look of a flower, animal, insect and creepies and Crawlies. The sole objective of the activity was to let the students explore different fruits and to learn the art of garnishing and arranging fruits in a presentable manner.

Plants are life! Learning the value of plants in our lives is of great significance. Plants cannot talk but they definitely breathe and grow. To arouse love for plants amongst our students, our Grade Nursery students used their creative skills for ‘Plant Craft’ wherein they mentioned various parts of plant. They lovingly beautified their creations using vibrant colours and also learnt the significance of watering plants.

Time for a Spanish craft! ‘Castanets’ must be a familiar instrument if you are related to Spanish dances. If not, our teeny weenies are here to show you! Our Grade Nursery students of AIS Mohali made catchy castanets using waste paper/hard sheets. The objective of this activity was to make the students understand the sound of the letter ‘c’. Children learn the best when they experiment. Buttons were pasted at the two open ends of the hard sheet and the little ones learnt that a sound is produced when they come together. This activity was great for the development of their fine motor skills and enhanced the eye-hand co-ordination as well. The kids enjoyed this fun-filled session and the knowledge of letter ‘c’ and its sound was imparted in a playful manner.

Pre-Nursery children were very happy to do the Cat craft activity. They were excited to make a cat. Children were enacting like a cat and were making its sound…meow meow. They showed a lot of interest in the activity and could relate to the letter 'C', the shapes - triangle and circle and the colour black . These activities are designed to enhance child’s ability to explore and learn through senses. We provide them opportunities to engage in art and craft which allow them to explore ideas and concepts.These activities are easily adapted to suit a child’s individual skills and abilities. Using different tools children can develop and practice fine motor skills and eye hand coordination.

Pre-Nursery

Our little Amitians of Grade 2 learnt a novel term ‘dissolve' while observing a demonstration of what happens when certain solids are added to water! The young learners were apprised of the different properties of a solution. This hands-on activity enabled the students to experiment by adding a variety of solids like sugar and sand in water wherein a spoonful of sugar dissolved to form a solution while sand could not mix well in water. It not only added to our students’ scientific aptitude but also helped in honing their logical thinking, analytical and reasoning skills.

The Primary graders are at their best while enjoying hands-on activities and making little prototypes that resemble their toys, as it is rightly said play is the highest form of learning! Popsicle sticks were used innovatively by Grade I students, who crafted cute helicopters??out of them, while Grade II students made?boats using the same. They explored the shape and the structure of the toys at the same time. Our Grade III students went a step ahead by crafting a model of their favourite car?? using toilet paper roll and bottle caps. Such activities enhance the spatial and creative skills in the young engineers.

Students of grade III were involved in the wonderful experience of making a hands-on project on Landforms during their virtual classes. They dug into clay, paints, sheets and used their imagination to create mountains, hills, deserts, waterfalls etc. Later they delivered eloquent presentations and explained the landforms to their classmates. The activity helped them learn the physical features of the Earth and also gave an understanding on the formation of different landforms due to the movement of tectonic plates in the Earth's crust.

When music and dance create harmony, their magic captivates both the heart and the mind of the audience, and this is what was experienced virtually at AIS, Mohali during the n Inter-House Bhajan and Patriotic Dance competition. In fact, music, songs, and dances help in shaping our personality. Considering the importance of this ‘food for the soul’, Amity International School, Mohali, organized the event for the students of Grades 4-9, who enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performances. The amazing show of talent was appreciated by the judges. They motivated them to continue their efforts to excel in all spheres. Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar applauded the hard work of the students. She reiterated that music and dance have a healing impact on our mind and soul and for young learners, music can be a resource for developing cultural identity. She emphasized upon the importance of co-curricular activities in the overall development of the Amitians.

'A friend is one of the nicest things you can have and one of the best things you can be!' There is something about childhood friends that you just can't replace! With the intent of making the Pre-Nursery darlings understand the value of friends and friendship, a lovely activity was organized. The kids made their first ever friendship band, enjoyed songs on friendship and spoke about their friends. The kids celebrated their unique friendship with their siblings/mommies by tying the self-made friendship bands on their wrists.

The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. To create a sustainable world, it is extremely important to build a generation that has the ability to empower others as well. As yet another step towards the goal of creating socially responsible Amitians, a special assembly to mark International Youth Day-2021 was hosted by Pawani House. The students presented motivational thoughts based on the theme. The theme of this year’s youth day- Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health” was also highlighted. The shining young brigade of India which is exhibiting exemplary performance during the Tokyo Olympics was lauded by the students. The assembly concluded with a belief that success at global level can never be achieved without the meaningful participation of young people. Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar, motivated the youngsters to work hard with faith in their own abilities so that success can be a cakewalk for them.

Fast Doubles: Grade - I Know more about the addends that are exactly the same!!! Teaching 'Doubles Addition' can be super fun in the classroom! A hands-on learning experience by creating 'Fast Doubles Bugs' helped the blooming Amitians of Grade I by giving them double benefits. India has changed dramatically in the last 75 years, and with it has evolved the idea of what it means to be ‘free’ in this country. 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence is being celebrated as ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’. To mark this phenomenal occasion, Amity International School, Mohali organized a special assembly to pay a tribute to the freedom which was gifted to our generation by our predecessors who toiled for the herald of freedom for our motherland. Our students, as representatives of the modern generation, shared their thoughts about ‘freedom’. They shared their responsibilities as well as rights as the citizens of modern India. This ‘amrit mahotsav’ brought in a realization that the right to call ourselves ‘free’ is a divine gift indeed.

Rakshabandhan is a festival dedicated to siblings-the definition that comprises love, strife, competition and forever friends. To mark this important occasion, a special virtual assembly was organized at Amity International School, Mohali, because Amity pays importance to Indian values and customs. Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. Keeping in mind the importance of physical as well as mental health of the 21st century adolescents, Amity International School, Mohali conducted a webinar , as the school took stock of the Covid-19 situation and emphasized upon the need for strategy building to ensure the well-being of the students. The webinar had the eminent parent fraternity as the guest speakers, who voiced out their valuable contemporary and realistic views, which would go a long way towards addressing student concerns. The webinar was an initiative where specialists from different fields addressed the challenges faced by the adolescents of modern times. The essential and thought-provoking session gave food for thought to the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the webinar as the guests spoke in detail touching upon various aspects of student welfare during the tough times. The webinar ended with a prudent speech by the Principal, Ms Urvashi Kakkar, who applauded the progressive perspective of the speakers and reiterated the importance of timely advice and plausible solutions with which anxiety and stress in students can be combated, because in this world there is nothing as beautiful as a happy child!

Amity International School, Mohali, hosted a special assembly to pay tribute to the valiant heroes of Kargil,who are the epitome of unparalleled bravery and sacrifice for safeguarding the borders of the country. The Primary Wing students honoured the heroes with their heartfelt speeches and songs. The Seniors too, presented a special assembly in a well-coordinated manner which proved to be absolute success in conveying its aim to inculcate the feelings of patriotism and acknowledging the sacrifice of the brave Indian soldiers. The celebration concluded with the wise words of the worthy Principal, Ms. Urvashi Kakkar, who further appreciated the initiative and efforts of the students.

‘Take care of your Body, it is the only place you have to live in.’ Emphasizing and evaluating the importance of the above quote, Mandakini House students of the Amity International School, Mohali, conducted a special assembly on the theme ‘Personal hygiene’ to inculcate the importance of maintaining Personal hygiene in children. The students were made aware of the fact that personal hygiene is the best tool to improve community strategies and intervention practices to tackle many communicable and infectious diseases. The effective presentation by the students generated awareness amongst the students to be very conscious about protecting and keeping themselves safe during this period of pandemic. The assembly concluded with the wise words of the Principal, Ms Urvashi Kakkar who further enlightened the students on the importance of cleanliness

Amity International School Mohali provides children with opportunities to understand, engage and learn from their natural environment while developing science, technology, art, mathematical and engineering skills. As a completion activity of their chapter "Animal Families", students of Grade IV were assigned an activity of Puppet Show. The students had to make finger puppet family of an animal of their choice and narrate a story involving their puppets. This activity was assigned to make them realize that animals do have families like us, and they too deserve love and respect. Great zeal was witnessed during the activity as the students developed feelings of love, care, empathy and admiration towards the animals.

In today’s time, when the world is running amok in the pursuit of money and other material possessions, the day reminds Amitians of the importance of the ‘Sense of belongingness’ in maintaining peace and harmony. Students at Amity International School Mohali, beleives that if everyone finds happiness in gratitude the love and belongingness towards each other will automatically spread. For the same the song "Teri Hai Jameen tera Assman" was presented by our melodious girls of Grade 7.

We conducted a craft activity with our Kindergarten toddlers. They created a bejeweled paper crown by coloring, beautifying plastic gems, stickers, sequins and glitter sheet. Their little magical hands turned the paper crown into a Charming Royal crown. This engrossing activity gave an opportunity to students to knock their creative minds.

Grade 2 students made paper Fortune tellers to boost their cognitive skills and boost their creativity. The 'Peacock Fortune Teller', with its vibrant tail turned out to be extremely fascinating. Plethora of colour combinations acted as icing on the cake and made the Fortune Tellers look amazing.

Basant Panchami, is celebrated in reverence to the Hindu deity Goddess Saraswati, the epitome of Learning, Music and Art. To mark the advent of Spring season, students at Amity International School, Mohali, celebrated the festival with great joy and fervour.To seek the blessings of the Almighty, the students along with their parents and the faculty members sat together to put ‘Aahutis’ in the Havan Kund, while chanting the sacred mantras. The Havan ceremony was performed with divine fervor and spirituality.The spring of joy took over when students performed a skit ‘Saras Vaani’, highlighting the significance of the festival. The students truly enjoyed the celebration and enthusiastically shared the joy of festivity with everyone.

New Year’s Day

On the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Amity International School, Mohali celebrated National Youth Day on 12th January, 2021.Amitians held a special event to commemorate the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The objective of this celebration was to help the students to rise to the values, principles and beliefs of Swami Vivekananda.

Lohri, the festival which ushers in the joyous spring and bids adieu to the harsh winter, was celebrated virtually with exuberance and fanfare at Amity International School, Mohali, on 13th January 2021. The celebrations started with the presentation on the significance of Lohri, which enlightened everyone about the traditional fervour of the festival. Our tiny tots enthralled the virtual platform as they carried out Lohri rituals with their family members around the holy pyre. The Pre - Primary and Primary grade students also showcased their marvellous oratory skills as they spoke about the importance of the festival of Lohri.
