Amity Institute of Environmental Science (AIES) is an interdisciplinary Centre of learning with objective to excel in the field of Environmental Science and Technology, established as a part of Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida. Environment plays a vital role in the well-being and prosperity of our planet and its inhabitants. Recognizing this, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have emerged as a comprehensive framework to address the urgent environmental challenges we face today. The SDGs encompass a range of goals and targets aimed at achieving sustainable development in an inclusive and holistic manner. This involves promoting sustainable practices that minimize waste generation, reduce pollution, and conserve natural resources. By preserving these natural habitats and their biodiversity, we safeguard essential ecosystem services, such as clean air and water, climate regulation, and the provision of food and resources. Investing in ecosystem restoration and conservation not only benefits the environment but also supports livelihoods and enhances resilience to climate change.
The institute intends to impart special training to students who can handle the emerging various environmental problems faced by industries and the societies on the technological and environmental fronts. The academic programmes of the institute are reviewed / revised periodically and updated, keeping in mind the need for the changes desired in curriculum like new courses or upgrading of individual courses or introduction of specific programmes. The Institute also offers Ph.D. programme in research related to Environmental Sciences and Technology. Faculty members of the institute are from diverse fields of specialization ranging from Environmental Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Microbial Ecology, Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Chemistry, Immunodiagnostics for pollutant/pesticides, Energy and Environmental Management, Environmental Modeling and Management to Sustainable Development in environment.

Post Graduate programmes in Environmental Science are interdisciplinary programs, with an emphasis on environmental analyses, pollution control, climate change, impact assessment and biodiversity conservation.
The main objectives of the course are:
- To impart knowledge of environmental problems of regional and global scale;
- To train the students for scientific analyses of environmental components for critical understanding, efficient environmental decision-making and management.
- To prepare them for global competence for career options in education, research, industries, consultancy, environmental journalism etc.
- To train the students for Environmental Impact Assessment and for management systems
- To understand the impacts of climate change and to develop mitigation strategies
- To prepare students for designing, conducting independent research in the area of their interest.
- To sensitize students towards developing the earth as a green planet for a clean habitat for all living forms.
World environment is confronting severe pressure from ever increasing demand and use of resources from the over 7 billion world population. This has brought the human race at the present critical juncture where effects of the by-products from the resource usage have reached a state of near non-reversibility. These by-products have posed serious problems that are currently threatening the very survival of Earth's life-support system. We, at Amity look upon them not as the insurmountable but as the opportunity to strive and excel in generating technological solutions. This is in line with the beliefs of the Amitians, and therefore, we understand our great social responsibility and recognize that the very survival of our race hinges on inventing viable solutions for these problems.
The most challenging of these issues is the CO2 emissions which is gradually changing the key life support systems of the Earth. Energy crisis is the next challenge. All renewable like-solar, wind, bio-mass, hydro etc. in all its forms are diffused sources and hence, apart from current high costs, are limited to catering to peak power demands, and not as the base power sources. A lot of work still needs to done to bring them to the grid parity with thermal/nuclear power plants.
The next big environmental problem looming on the Indian horizon is the serious water crisis. Technologies must be developed for ensuring supply of adequate clean water. Management of solid waste produced by ever expanding urban population requires out-of-the-box thinking for solution.
At Amity we have launched the Amity Environment Mission and have taken a few initiatives under it covering the above areas of the environment. As academics, it is our prime objective to sensitize the student on various issues & problems and prepare to him through quality education for becoming a part of the solution, and not merely an observer from the sideline.

This intensive and well-prepared two-year program prepares future environmental sustainability leaders, managers, activist, and eco-warriors to address the most important and intricate environmental problems the earth is facing and soon will encounter. The course is highly inter-disciplinary, providing students with a rigorous understanding of environmental processes, in parallel to studies in environmental policy and management approaches. The graduates of B.Sc. & M.Sc. Environmental Sciences, M.sc Environmental Health and safety management are groomed and mentored with all the skills and understanding in data analysis and interpretation, lab and field methods, ecological and environmental monitoring, EIA, EMS, GIS and remote sensing that enables them to hold key positions in important organizations worldwide in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
