Brig. (Dr.) Anand Kumar Tewari (Retd) and the Head of Institution (HOI) at the Amity Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (AIDSS), Amity University, NOIDA.  Before Joining Indian Army, he had studied geography, geopolitics and political geography and became a postgraduate from University of Allahabad in 1982. Qualified Junior Research Fellowship of UGC, became eligible for Ph.D. and professorship but chose to join Indian Army. After Joining Indian Army by divine providence, from the first posting with Ladakh Scouts in Ladakh, began to gain experience on China.  Did Diploma in Chinese Language from Army Educational Corps Training College and Centre and Qualified as Chinese Language Interpreter from the School of Foreign Languages, New Delhi in 1995. Taught Chinese Language and Culture, Military and Diplomatic conversations at Army Educational Training College and Centre, an Autonomous College of Barkatullah University Bhopal for more than 3 years. Worked as Interpreter in numerous meetings with Chinese Delegates in various postings and visits. The experience enriched through direct interaction with Chinese delegates has been priceless and unique he worked as China Analyst for more than 3 years. He completed Ph.D. from Defence and Strategic Studies Department of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune as regular scholar from 2013-15. The topic of the research was ‘Chinese Geopolitics in the 21st Century’. The approach to research was ‘Evolutionary’ and ‘Inside-out’. Therefore, a detailed temporal study of evolution of China’s geo-body, metaphysical foundations of geopolitics and role of geo-economics was carried out to understand China’s geopolitical imperatives. His competence to research from primary sources available in Chinese language made the research more authentic. Having been approved for the rank of Major General officiated as Additional Director General, equivalent to Joint Secretary, for 10 months. During this period held various appointments and acquired expertise and experience. He worked creatively to evolve policies and charters for human resource of more than 5000 instructors of Army Educational Corps and ensured their training and placement of right person for right job. Also evolved policies, put in place systems and procedures and issued directives for training of Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks of the Indian Army in the fields of Educational Training, Foreign Language Training, Distance Education, Navigational Training and various other fields, for training pan Army. He acted as Advisor to the Chief of Army Staff on the matters pertaining to Educational Training in the Indian Army and as Chairman, Board of Governors, Army Educational Corps Training College & Centre, an Autonomous College under UGC, affiliated to Barkatullah University, Bhopal.  He also acted as Member, Board of Governors, Kendriaya Vidyalay Sangthan and as Member, Board of Governors, Sainik Schools Society and assisted in management of Sainik Schools and selection of Principals, Vice Principals and Administrative Officers.  He acted as Member Secretary, Board of Governors, Rashtriya Military Schools responsible for policy evolution and promulgation, macro management, financial management, curricula management, admissions, selection of Principals and Administrative Officers and inspections. As Deputy Director General, he worked for more than three years, and in addition to assisting in the roles above had steered projects and programmes like, evolved Foreign Language Training Policy of Indian Army and carried out implementation pan Army, established eight language training institutes across India and successfully processed recognition from JNU.  Equipped all eight language training institutes with most modern training facilities including language labs with virtual classroom facilities for training by resource persons from Army Foreign Language Institute in Delhi to all other institutes and vice versa.  Formulated MoU between Indian Army and Central University of Gujrat, Gandhi Nagar in 2016 for conduct of MA Chinese language and Culture for the graduate students who have done Diploma in Chinese language from Army Educational Training College and Centre, a first of its kind which provided a deep pool of high-proficiency linguists and interpreters for the operational requirement of the Indian Army. Formulated MoU between Indian Army and NIOS in 2016 for Secondary and Senior Secondary distance mode learning and examinations for army JCOs and Other Ranks. The scheme is known as NIOS Education Project for the Indian Army (NEPIA) has become very popular among Jawans, in remote and field areas. He arranged various foreign language courses in the foreign universities of native countries through Indian Missions. As Presiding officer (Chairman) of the Selection Committee selected officers for foreign language courses abroad and successfully got them trained. Responsible as controller for the conduct of All India Examinations during these three years, he also conducted the Army Cadet College Selection Tests and Rashtriya Military School Entrance Examinations.  Mandated as equivalent to CBSE for the Army by the government, he headed a board and conducted Secondary and Senior Secondary examinations of RIMC, RMS and Indian Army Personnel. He was also a member of Expert Committee and contributed towards establishment of School of National Security Study at Central University of Gujarat, Gandhi Nagar, Gandhi Nagar. He also worked as Chief Instructor of the Army Educational Training College & Centre and Principal of the same which is an Autonomous PG College of UGC affiliated with Barkatullah University, Bhopal. During the tenure as principal,    he carried out academic administration of the college involving B Ed, B Ed (Tech) and Diploma in Teaching Courses of NCTE, 9 Foreign Language and two Indian language courses for defence and security forces, Specialist English courses for Foreign Army Officers, Specialist English courses for Indian Army Personnel, Computer courses like ADP (SAP),  9 music courses for the Indian Army Bands, Navigation courses, other professional training courses for Indian and foreign officers. During the tenure, he was also the Chairman of the Academic Council, Chairman of Finance committee, Chairman of Study Council, Member Secretary of the Board of Governor and Chief Editor of the Academic Journal of the College, “The Educationist”. Concurrently, he also held the post of Principal, Army College of Education, a B. Ed college for girls under Army Welfare Educational Society (AWES), recognized by NCTE and co-located. He successfully conducted autonomy extension inspection/ visit by high powered committee of the UGC and got the college listed under Section 2F and 12B of the UGC, therefore making it eligible for UGC Autonomy Grant and other project grants. Thus, as the Principal of the college for the first time, got all such grants released for the college amounting to Rs 60 Lakh in the year 2009.He has had tremendous experience of developing training infrastructure involving a budget of several crores and establish best teaching practices in the College. He organised conferences and academic seminars.  He was thus, awarded Chief of the Army Staff Commendation for introducing innovative methods and technologies in the field of academic training and augmenting institutional growth. He also worked as Director (Military Training) and as Director (Military Training) at the Army was responsible for educational training of the soldiers of the entire Indian Army, issuance of all policies and training instructions and ensuring implementation pan Army.   As Brigadier Education and Col Education in the Command Headqurters have also had two tenures of 1 year and 1 year 8 months respectively. During these tenures experiences were gained in Human Resource Development including planning, conduct and coordination of all educational activities for the Army personnel and their wards.  An Advisor to the Army Commander on Educational, Academic administrative matters.  Ex- Officio Regional Director of Indira Gandhi Open University programmes conducted in the Indian Army. Chairman of the management committees of schools. Awarded Army Commander’s Commendation for editing and publishing a Coffee Table Book encapsulating the growth, traditions and laurels of Southern Command. As Vice Principal Sainik Schools: Very early in service, worked as Vice Principals of two Sainik Schools. Was given two consecutive tenures of two and half years each at Sainik School Bhubanewsar and Sainik School Rewa for outstanding handling of academic and military training. Have interacted closely with CBSE and IPSC authorities and schools. Have had experience of conducting examinations of CBSE and AIEEE, JEE and Medical entrances as examination superintendent.  Due to deft handling of administration, was also sent to Sainik School, Gopal Ganj for three months by the Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence, to trouble shoot an administrative issue arisen out of indiscipline among Principal, Vice Principal and students despite being so junior in service. A fully accomplished multi domain, talented Veteran now leads the AIDSS at Amity, NOIDA as Professor & Director.
