In the very first day of the functioning of the law schoolin 2018, a workshop and immersionprogram involving Iona College, New York, USA and PRATYEK, an International NGOworking closely with UNICEF on Child Rights in India was held in the UniversityAuditorium.

After watering the plant, an enlightened Welcome Address followed by our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay onthe special importance of the immersion program on the first day of the Sessionfor the students. The relevance of collaboration with foreign universities wasalso highlighted. He also raised concern on the growing violation of rights onchildren.

An introduction was forwarded on the promotion of child rightswith the aid of audio visual means by SteveRohan Rocha, Director of the NGO PRATYEK working from the office at Geneva, Switzerland and New Delhi,India. The core areas highlighted by him are the issue of child deaths in Indiadue to malnutrition. He also heighted that one Indian child dies in everyeighth second due to various reasons. He also appealed to raise voice againstchild inequalities and child abuse and also requested the law students to do inwhatever way possible to protect child rights in India. He also appreciated theefforts of Amity Law School Kolkata to coordinate to stand against child abuse.

He highlighted the mission of NINE IS MINE CAMPAIGN and the need to grow the awareness amongstthe people to protect child rights. The relevance of Universal Periodic Reviewwas also noted in his deliberation.

Prof (Dr) CarlProcario-Foley, Director Office of Mission and Ministry, Iona College, NewYork, USA made a brief deliberation on the need to protect children acrossthe world and the role young students can play to the mission of protectingchildren against violation of Human Rights. He also congratulates AmityUniversity Kolkata for their efforts to promote child rights and urged the lawstudents to fight against child abuse in all forms including human trafficking.
