In India, there are a wide variety of agroclimatic conditions that are favourable for the cultivation of different fruits and vegetables. India comes behind China in terms of global production of fruits and vegetables. Even while production is great, the nation's needs are not being met. Typically, Post Harvest losses around 30 to 40%. The major challenges before us are the lack of skilled man power to minimize or reduce the Post Harvest losses. There is an ample amount of demands and needs for the Post Harvest experts in India. To meet the demands and needs of the nation the “Amity Institute of Horticulture Studies and Research” was established in the year 2014 with two programmes i.e., M.Sc. Horticulture (Post Harvest Technology) and Ph.D. in Horticulture is one of the few Universities which are offering these regular programmes. Apart from this, our University is the first in India and probably in world to offer Ph.D. (Horticulture) -Part Time as in-service candidates from India as well as from foreign countries can pursue their doctorate as a regular student.
