ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Over the past 50 years, Food Systems worldwide have shifted from predominantly rural to industrialized and consolidated systems, with impacts on diets, nutrition and health, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability. The Food industry have undergone a series of transitions over the past several decades, impacting the environment and climate. Providing equal access to food security and healthy diets to human population is the essential goal of all the nations. For making it possible, we need to design a healthier food production systems in a more holistic manner while minimizing waste, developing new technologies of valorization, and exploiting new food materials for food production. Novel foods are the outcome of these developments and play an important role in providing sustainable and healthier food for everyone.

Despite India’s economic progress over the past two decades, regional inequality, food insecurity and malnutrition problems persist. Simultaneously, trends in overweight and obesity, along with micronutrient deficiency, portend a future public health crisis. We examine the synergistic interactions between food production and nutrition through the lens of a “Food Systems Approach (FSA)”. We explore various challenges and opportunities to achieve a nutrition secure future. This conference will bring together the latest data available on development processes in food sector, highlighting the nature of food system challenges, identifying the trends and threats to progress, emphasizing policy and institutional interventions needed to address challenges and setting an interlinking system for health and nutrition and economic development.

The conference focused on how food systems need to be transformed to overcome the multiple deeply rooted and interlinked crises of hunger, malnutrition, health, inequality, increasing cost of living, climate, biodiversity, conflict, and energy in order to achieve the SDGs.
