The Group of 20 (G20) is an international forum made up of 19 nations and the European Union. Made up of both developed and developing countries, its major focus has been the regulation of the global economy.
Throughout the years, the G20 has worked to address other linked global concerns, such as climate change mitigation and sustainable development. It has established various working groups, one of which being Science 20 or S20. G20, along with S20 and other working groups, will be presided over by India in 2023.
The role of S20 in advancing the G20 agenda is critical. Science will have to play a critical role if we are to achieve the economic growth necessary to lift millions out of poverty while also guaranteeing equitable and sustainable development. It has grown over several decades into a hub for a variety of international scientific, intellectual, and engineering interactions.
