The Group of 20 (G20) is an international forum made up of 19 nations and the European Union. Made up of both developed and developing countries, its major focus has been the regulation of the global economy.

Throughout the years, the G20 has worked to address other linked global concerns, such as climate change mitigation and sustainable development. It has established various working groups, one of which being Science 20 or S20. G20, along with S20 and other working groups, will be presided over by India in 2023.

The role of S20 in advancing the G20 agenda is critical. Science will have to play a critical role if we are to achieve the economic growth necessary to lift millions out of poverty while also guaranteeing equitable and sustainable development. It has grown over several decades into a hub for a variety of international scientific, intellectual, and engineering interactions.

However, scientific progress alone is insufficient. Meaningful progress necessitates the collaboration of member states in order to exchange experiences and technological advancements. The goal is to use scientific, technical, and intellectual exchanges across nations, regions, and communities to solve shared challenges and establish strong international alliances. S20 is thus a suitable foundation for achieving this aim. 

Disruptive transformation and its ramifications for a circular economy may be both imaginative and consistent with sustainable growth in a continuously changing environment. In a world where 8 billion people are always seeking a better living, there is an urgent need to foster breakthrough science and technology that has the potential to revolutionize lives and livelihoods.

India has proposed “Disruptive Science for Innovative and Sustainable Development” as the subject for Science 20 this year.

The International S20 Conference has been scheduled on 4-5 September 2023 at Amity University, Noida.

There would be four technical sessions to include all the sub-themes.

• “Clean Energy for Greener Future” will focus on the equitable distribution of energy by utilizing novel technologies developed around the world. The conference will deliberate openness in intellectual property, technology transfer, energy poverty, and opportunities for clean and green hydrogen energy and climate change problems.
• “Universal Holistic Health” will focus on a healthy lifestyle, nutritious food, and integrated medicine practices incorporating traditional knowledge & system, ecologically sustainable food products, etc.
• “Science for Society & Culture” aims at connecting science and society for science and its promotion through a variety of social engagements, and importantly, Scientific Social Responsibility to create a strong science and societal connection to bring transformational changes in society through the application of Science and Technology (S&T). 
• “Role of Media in Science and Culture” Aims at highlighting the role of Media in propagating the culture of science and creating awareness regarding science, technology, and innovation for the sustainable development of society.

Innovation Ecosystem is created right from the appropriate pedagogy, learning by doing culture and promoting strong research competence at the Doctoral and Masters Level and more than 6000 Ph.D Scholars. State of the Art research infrastructures have been created, both through Government funded and S&T department as well as through Amity resources which included instruments such as FACS Accuri and FACS sorter, Confocal Microscope, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, Scanning Electron Microscope, FT-IR, High Performance Liquid Chromatograph, Gas Chromatograph, Fermenter, RT-PCR. World class laboratory has been established by Amity Centre for Spintronic Material (ACSM) and the other in Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR).

We at Amity believe that Patents play an important role in stimulation of inventive activity and we aim at protecting the intellectual property of the scientific leads and Invention made by our scientists and researchers. AUUP has been credited with filing 2000+ patents in the areas of Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Biosensors, Herbal, Software, IT, Photovoltaic, Electronics, Microbiology etc.

The Indian Intellectual Property Office under the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, has recognized Amity’s extraordinary achievements in the area of research and innovation by selecting “AMITY UNIVERSITY” for National Intellectual Property Award – 2020, recognizing Amity University as ‘Top Indian Academic Institution for Patents & Commercialization'.
