AMITY INSTITUTE OF MICROBIAL TECHNOLOGY
The Amity Institute of Microbial Technology (AIMT) was established in September 2004. AIMT aims at excellence in performance, committed to providing quality educational opportunities and services that meet or exceed the needs of learners, industry/business and our community. AIMT is now supported by Department of Science & Technology (DST) under Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure (DST-FIST) to rebuild the Science & Technology infrastructure in the country.
State of art facilities: AIMT has most modern infrastructural facilities including two practical labs fully devoted for teaching M.Sc students, two research labs for carrying out the research projects and specialized labs for plant tissue culture, greenhouse, controlled environment plant/ microbes growth chambers, biochemical analysis, cryo facility and facilities to carry out molecular studies etc. Apart from routine basic equipment needed for teaching and research, the labs are equipped with state-of-the art instruments like HPLC, GLC, RT-PCR, TGGE, Gel Documentation System. ELISA Plate Reader, Fluorescent Microscope, Phase Contrast Microscope, Refrigerated Centrifuge, Plant Tissue Culture Room, Zeta Potential Analyzer, Green House, Microbial Culture room, Laminar flow cabinets, Ice flakes machine, Deep Freezer – 20°, - 40° and - 80°, Lyophilizer, UV-VS Spectrometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Electronic Beam Evaporator (for thin film growth), Thermal Evaporator, Electroporator, Transilluminator, Confocal Microscope (Under DST – FIST Scheme I)
Modern research: Apart from M.Sc./M.Phil. degree courses, AIMT enrolls Ph.D & D.Sc. students and is undertaking research in a wide range of specializations including plant microbe interaction for improving the value of medicinal plants, medicinal mushroom as nutraceutical, micro-nutrient management and crop quality improvement specially oil seed brassica. The institute is presently running 11 research projects, sponsored by Indian government funding agencies like DBT, DRDO, DST, ICAR, MoEF etc.
Scope: Quality control & hygiene in Hotels, food testing labs & catering industry, pharmaceutical companies, distilleries, clinical diagnostic labs, corporate and government sector R&D labs. Students can also pursue higher studies in India and abroad.
