Facilities at AIMT

M.Sc. Labs

Amity institute of Microbial Technology has two well equipped labs for M.Sc. students with facilities to perform microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology experiments. With instruments/ equipments like horizontal laminar airflow system, refrigerated micro centrifuge, hot air oven, ELISA reader, autoclave, water bath, PCR etc. Apart from these we have the state of art facility for higher research where M.Sc students can learn new techniques as well.

Research Lab

The research lab in AIMT is equipped with general instrumentation facilities for smooth functioning research activities. Being the common lab for the research scholars, the room is very spacious, providing space for at least 15 research scholars to work at a time. There are well furnished working benches. The lab is equipped with a variety of general purpose instrument.

Cryopreservation Facility

Keeping in view the growing needs of cryopreservation, the department has set up a Cryopreservation Facility which boasts of a Walk-in Cold Room. Other instruments installed are a Deep Freezer Vertical -80 ºC, -20 ºC, a Lyophilizer, an Ice- Flaking Machine and several Refrigerators.

Fermentation Facility

For mass-cultivation of microorganisms, a state-of-the-art fully automated in-situ Batch Fermenter of 10L capacity has been installed in the laboratory.

Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory

For assessing plant-microbe interaction and general micropropagation, a state-of-the-art Plant Tissue Culture Facility has been set up with a fully automated system for controlled light intensity and temperature.

Microscopy Laboratory

Microscopy Facility is primarily equipped to benefit students/researchers/scientists at the department, and is also frequented by users from other academic institutes. Among the microscopes installed are Compound Microscopes, Phase Contrast – Fluorescence Microscope, Digital Microscope and Stereo Zoom Binocular Microscope.

Molecular Biology Facility

To carry out molecular biology related research, the lab is facilitated with instruments like PCR (General & Gradient), Gel Electrophoresis Unit, Gel Documentation System and Spectrophotometer.

Bio-process Laboratory

The lab is exclusively meant for the pilot scale production of a novel biofertilizer. It houses a culture room containing 10 imported shakers for cultivation of root endophyte Piriformospora indica. It also house a clean room for development of formulated biofertilizer for field application. The lab also contains two -20 ºC refrigerators for cryopreservation.

Biological Hardening Chamber

The biohardening chamber has the controlled atmospheric conditions like temperature, humidity and light intensity for performing relative experiments of Agricultural Microbiology

Analytical Lab

AIMT house important analytical facilities like HPLC, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, which are used for analysis of large number of biological samples in an automated manner

Confocal Microscopy Facility

Confocal Laser Microscopy is highly efficient microscopic technique of choice for researchers interested in better imaging and analysis of cell structure and function. Confocal Laser Microscopy or Confocal microscopy is an optical imaging technique based on single point illumination i.e. single point of excitation light which allows sample imaging and analysis. It provides very high quality images due to elimination of out-of- focus signals and background noise which is not possible with conventional microscopy. This technique has revolutionized the area of biological sciences via unraveling the complexities of the morpho-physiological dynamics of plant, animal and microbes. Recently, AMITY University has established a Confocal Laser Microscope Facility (Advanced Nikon A1) at Amity Institute of Microbial Technology (AIMT), AMITY University The major purpose of this facility is to provide cutting edge Confocal facility to various researchers from academic/ research institutes and private industries.
