Through three years of the Undergraduate programme, our students are taught and trained in a rich variety of subjects and skills related to all aspects of the media industry. They learn film and television production as well as designing notions for print and digital media. They are taught nuances of graphics and animation and introduced to sound design and radio production.
The teaching methodology of ASCO is based on the best journalism and mass communication education programmes across the globe. The academic courses entail practices and methods to cater global conditions and adopting innovations and flexibility to train students as per changing media landscape. It amalgamates detailed academic curriculum with intensive practical training to create a balance between imparting theory (knowledge) and training (instilling professional skills). The academic thoroughness harnesses critical and reflective perspective and approach in budding journalists and aspiring filmmakers to remain relevant in changing work ecosystem and work for the betterment of society at large.
For those seeking careers in public relations and marketing, we have focused modules on client servicing, advertising campaigns, image and brand management as well as event planning and management.
All our courses are augmented by rigorous training, broad and elaborated discussions as well as hands-on experience across various industries. While strengthening their technical skills, we motivate students to produce original work. They write their own scripts and screenplays for films and documentaries, subsequently produce and direct them. We bring students to production studios and make them think and work like a TV news anchor, bulletin producer, script writer and narrator or a radio jockey. Our students regularly get involved with news reporting on and off-campus, which hones their analytical and creative skills 'out in the field.'
The department has sound infrastructure for print and broadcast production, which includes a multi-media lab, a video-editing lab, a studio as well as still and video cameras and technical equipment.
ASCO aims to train and transform students for versatile media industry by instilling in them required skills and approach. Students are engrossed in a professional environment for the entire three years of studies, so that they learn to dream and breathe in the work culture they will one day be a part of. Teaching and learning at ASCO is a blend of workshops, mock-newsroom activities, audio-video shoot, film screening and analyses, industry visits, advocacy programmes, declamation, training on production of bulletins and newspapers as well as regular field trips.
