Legal profession is one of the oldest professions in the world and all along it was treated as the ‘profession of the learned’. Right from the beginning, lawyers and legal profession have been looked upon with esteem and acceptance across the globe.
With the growth of democratic institution and observance of ‘Rule of Law’ as the foundational Mantra of democracy, good governance, and the governance in accordance with law, legal profession has assumed unprecedented importance. Imparting quality legal education through institutions of excellence in law is very much essential for sustaining the high standards of profession and cater to the needs of good governance according to law. Many Law Universities/Schools in the West have taken up this cause at least a century back.
Legal education in India got a boost with the introduction of 5-year integrated under-graduate program and the establishment of National Law Universities/Schools almost in every State. The ideas of transforming legal education has been put into reality by numerous new generation Law Universities/Schools throughout the country; where the best talents are attracted through a specialized admission process and trained them with this perspective.
ALS established by the Amity University Mumbai is in the forefront of such a new generation Law Schools. Within less than five years of its inception, ALS has earned name and reputation as one of the most sought-after Centers of Excellence in legal education.
We in ALS follow a very promising curriculum, while adhering to the basic requirements prescribed by the BCI. We have a team of highly motivated and dedicated faculties who undertake academic and extra and co-curricular activities, like moot courts, client counselling, internships, seminars, workshops with vigor and fullest commitment. The most favorable factor for ALS is its locational advantage of being in the financial capital of the country, Mumbai. We have already established sustained links and are associated with corporate entities of repute, NGOs and Law Firms for suitable placements for our students.
While under-graduate courses are our thrust areas; we have an equal focus on the Post-Graduate and research programs. We have one-year LL.M. with different specializations. Our prime research areas are criminal law, constitutional law and commercial law and now we look forward to Policy research in the realm of Public as well as Private law.
The students are the most important stake holders for us in Amity law School. They are not mere passive recipients of instructions; but are active participants in every activity of the ALS.
We are sure that ALS, in near future, will emerge as one of the leading centers of higher learning and more visible in India.
