The Institute has a comprehensive mandate of research, training and extension in different aspects of Aquaculture Nutrition, Aquaculture Toxicology, Marine Pharmacology, Bioremediation, Ornamental Fish Breeding and rearing, Marine Biotechnology, transgenic fish technology and others with over 100+ publications.
Fisheries play a critical role in local and global aquatic food systems. From seaweeds and sea cucumbers to crustaceans and fish, the vast range of aquatic foods harvested from fisheries contributes to resilient, sustainable, and diverse diets and income streams from the associated trading and processing activities of the value chain.Globally, the sector employs 120 million people. Of these, 97 percent live in developing countries, and 90 percent work in small-scale fisheries. However, the diverse, dispersed, and often informal nature of their work makes measuring these contributions difficult. We need to make sure the voices of fishers are heard and recognized.
Amid COVID-19 pandemic AIMST is going to organize International Symposium on ‘Sustainable Fisheries: Revolution in Blue Economy – 2021’ which would facilitate brainstorming session for scientific discussions, dealings, and act as the promoter for collaborative research and capacity building in the area of fisheries. The day sets future goals and milestones for the trade. It brings together under one roof, not just the fishing department, but many allied units with the fisheries.
