Two-day CRE Programme on “Interpersonal Therapy: Transforming Clinical Outcomes”, held at Amity

Amity Institute of Behavioural Health & Allied Sciences (AIBHAS), Amity University Uttar Pradesh Noida organized a two-day Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) programme titled "Interpersonal Therapy: Transforming Clinical Outcomes for Clinical Practice", from 8th-9th May 2025. Designed for mental health professionals, the workshop aimed to combine theoretical insights with hands-on learning through role plays, case analyses, and practical demonstrations, helping clinicians incorporate IPT into real-world therapeutic settings.

With over 120 participants registered from across states including Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Bengal, the workshop emphasized upon a growing nationwide interest in interpersonal approaches to mental health care.

Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, averred, “Interpersonal relationships are deeply embedded in the Indian cultural fabric, where family, community, and social bonds form the core of personal identity and emotional well-being. Integrating IPT into clinical practice in the Indian context aligns with these cultural values and offers a culturally congruent approach to psychotherapy. The workshop will familiarize participants with the core principles of IPT, highlighting its emphasis on the link between interpersonal functioning and emotional health.”

Prof. (Dr.) Kalpana Srivastava, Director, AIBHAS, said, “Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is a structured, time-limited, and evidence-based treatment that focuses on addressing interpersonal issues as central to psychological well-being. Initially developed for treating depression, IPT has demonstrated efficacy across a spectrum of mental health conditions, including anxiety, personality disorders, and grief-related concerns. The participants will explore its four key focus areas—grief, interpersonal disputes, role transitions, and interpersonal deficits—and learn how targeted interventions can foster improved emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.”

The distinguished speakers included Dr. Prasanta Kumar Roy (Head, Dept. of Clinical Psychology, Institute of Psychiatry – A Centre of Excellence, Kolkata), Prof. Sneha Das, Assistant Professor, AIBHAS and Prof. Sampurna Chakraborty, Assistant Professor, AIBHAS.

During the two-day Programme, Technical Sessions on topics such as “Understanding Basics of Interpersonal Psychotherapy”, “Understanding Depression from an Interpersonal lens”, “IPT in Management of Grief & Bereavement”, “Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) Approaches in Marital and Couple Counselling”, “IPT as an Evidence based Practice” and others will be conducted.
