International Conference on “The Future of Food Science and Technology: Innovations, Sustainability, and Health”, “AMIFOST- 2025”, held at Amity

Amity Institute of Food Technology, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh organized an International Conference on “The Future of Food Science & Technology: Innovations, Sustainability and Health”, “AMIFOST- 2025”. The Conference aimed to explore innovations, sustainability practices, and health-centric advancements in the field of food technology. The inaugural session witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, leading academicians, industry experts, and research scholars from across the globe.

 

The Chief Guest of the session was Mr. Siraj Hussain, IAS, Advisor Food Processing, FICCI, Former Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), and Department of Agriculture and Co-operation, Government of India. The other eminent dignitaries present included Dr. Manfred Buchele – Managing Director, Kompetenzzentrum Obstbau Bodensee, Germany, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla – Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, AUUP, Dr. W. SelvamurthyPresident, Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation; and Dr. V.K. Modi – Professor and Head of Institution, Amity Institute of Food Technology, AUUP.

 

 

Chief Guest Mr. Siraj Hussain stressed upon the health implications of food choices, citing increasing cases of lifestyle disorders, alarming statistics revealing that over 70% of Indian women are overweight. The pressing need for quality food production and reduction of food wastage. Environmental concerns related to fertilizer overuse, groundwater depletion, and pollution. The importance of transparent food labelling regulations and the global best practices in this domain and emerging food technologies such as non-thermal processing and sustainable packaging solutions. He urged the participants to remain conscious of their food choices and recommended an investigative BBC documentary on rising cancer rates.

 

Delivering the Keynote Address, Dr. Manfred Buchele, shared insights on the future of precision and indoor farming, highlighting the challenges posed by climate change, plant protection, and food resilience, the strategies to optimize food value chains and reduce carbon footprints, the impact of dietary choices on global health and nutrition security, innovations in plant-based meat alternatives and sustainable protein sources and the necessity of collaboration between Indian and international research institutes for advancing food technology.

 

Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President – ASTIF, Director – General, Amity Directorate of Science and Innovations emphasized the conference’s alignment with the vision of "Viksit Bharat 2047" as envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Key highlights of his speech included India’s economic trajectory towards a $5 trillion economy, the vital role of food technology in achieving this goal and the importance of food security and nutritional security in national development.

 

Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor AUUP, addressed the gathering, focusing on the critical importance of food security in light of the growing global population, the significant role of industry partners in developing high-quality food products, the need for continuous research and innovation to address emerging food challenges and congratulating the organizing team for facilitating a knowledge-driven and impactful conference.

 

Dr. V.K. Modi introduced the overarching theme of the conference: "The Future of Food Science and Technology: Innovations, Sustainability, and Health." In his address, he highlighted the pivotal role of food technology in addressing global challenges related to food production, processing, and consumption, emerging trends such as AI-driven food processing, lab-grown meat, and sustainable food solutions, the urgency to minimize food wastage and optimize supply chains for improved food security, acknowledgment of the organizers, sponsors, and participants for their dedication in making AMIFOST a successful platform for scientific discussions.

 

To commemorate the milestone event, Mr. Siraj Hussain released the proceedings of the 7th AMIFOST and officially launched the souvenir of the 8th AMIFOST.
