Dr. Sujeet Jha, has long experience in clinical practice in rural and urban India. Before this he has been trained in this specialty in UK for nine years. Dr. Jha is pioneer of the first Diabetes Educators Training Program in India in collaboration with the ‘Project Hope’ and has trained more than 100 diabetes educators who are now employed in various organizations. He has created a highly-trained work force of Diabetes Educators for Inpatients and Outpatients and has been extensively involved in Research in Diabetes and Endocrinology. Currently, he is leading two European Union (EU) funded projects in collaboration with Imperial College, London. His research publications are in prestigious journals like Nature, The Lancet, Lancet-Diabetes & Endocrinology and Diabetes Care. Dr. Jha has conceptualized and designed a lifestyle intervention study for prevention of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) which is on-going at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi. He is also leading the largest community-based study being conducted in India (iHealth T2D Study), in collaboration with Imperial College, London. Objective of this study is to evaluate simple tools for identification of Indians at high risk of diabetes based on either blood test (HbA1c-overall 3 months average blood sugar status) or measurement of waist size, as both are predictor of diabetes. This is to promote health through lifestyle modification (healthy diet, increased physical activity) without medication in pre-diabetes individuals. Dr. Jha has been honoured with several distinctions like “Best Researcher & Innovation Award” of Indian Academy of Diabetes, “The Best Diabetes Clinic” and “Best Researcher Award” in the ABP News Healthcare Leadership Awards 2015 and Prof.B.N. Shrivastava & late (Mrs.) Sarandulari Shrivastava Award for his research contribution in the field of Diabetes by Research Society for the study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), 2015.
