Workshop on DNA Analytics using Java

Amity Institute of Biotechnology in collaboration with Amity Institute of Information Technology, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow Campus has organized two days workshop on “DNA ANALYTICS USING JAVA”.

In the context of Next Generation Sequencing, new technologies emerged that facilitate the

Real time sequencing of large number of Genomic DNA. Four Letters of DNA (A, T, G, C) encode signals of protein coding regions and other features of genomic DNA like genes, promoters, protein motifs, domains etc. that can signify role of genes in various diseases. Bioinformatics is an amalgamation of biological science and information technology that plays key role to recognize biological Information contained in raw genomic sequences. Information technology have major part in development softwares and tools that can be used to extract biological information .With the emergence of need of programming languages JAVA is most powerful language used to develop softwares . The aim of the workshop is to expose IT students to a new field of programming in biological sciences and Biotech students towards importance of programming in biological sciences to enhance their technical and analytical capabilities to take up advance researches as a challenge.

The workshop session was inaugurated by eminent chief guest Dr. Ravishankar Ramachandran HeadMolecular & Structural Biology Division, CDRI. He focused on development of our own software to enhance growth of bioinformatics in INDIA.

A welcome address was given by Dr J K Srivastava HOI, Amity Institute of Biotechnology, he draw attention on the genesis of workshop and its importance.  Sri Naresh Chandra, Director Projects, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow campus address the inaugural session and emphasized on  significance of DNA Analysis and use of programming languages in life sciences. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. A. K. Saxena Deputy Dean Research (Science & Technology) Amity University, Lucknow Campus

On the first day of workshop 29 th  March 2016, technical session  was address by Ms. Swasti Agarwal, Director, Precursor Infosolutions , Lucknow . She delivered talk on programming in java by relating programming with real world and took demo session very interactively from installation of java to writing programs and pattern search in java. Her talk was very energetic and motivational for the participants as well as researchers and faculties to take up research in this area.
