INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND ITS APPLICATION IN SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Amity School of Applied Sciences (ASAS) organized five-day workshop (February 26-March 01, 2024) on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) sponsored by Council of Science & Technology, UP, Lucknow. Event started on February 26 with the welcome address of Hon’ble Dy Pro VC Wg Cdr. Dr. Anil K. Tiwari emphasizing the need for awareness of IPR for students to gain from their intellectual capabilities. The chief guest of the event was Dr. Vidhu A. Sane, Chief Scientist from NBRI, who emphasized on role of IPR in current scenario.

In workshop, lectures given by eminent scientist and speakers from different fields, who try to communicate the need of IPR in different fields like copyright, trademark, patent etc. Dr. K. C. Khulbe, Dr. Poonam J. Singh, Dr. Neerja Masih grace the event with their presence and discussed the need of IPR. On the final day Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Mehrotra, HOD Department of Biochemistry, Lucknow University addressed the participants. He gave an example of the coronavirus pandemic and spoke about the vaccine efforts in India, he thereafter mentioned the need for the protection of IP and discussed the myths related to patents.

Prof. (Dr.) Asita Kulshreshtha, HOI of ASAS concluded the workshop by extending thanks to guest speakers, participants, deputy Pro VC, Vice Chancellor, Chancellor Sir and the organizing team. She also gave thanks to organizing secretaries Dr. Richa Khare, Dr. Nimisha Mishra, Dr. Smriti Khare for their untiring efforts to make workshop successful. She summarized the five-day workshop and reminded the participants to keep igniting the innovation within them and keep exploring, now as a new beginning with the awareness of IPRs and their applications. In the end, she gave a vote of thanks to UPCST for the financial support and Administration, IT-Department, Security Department of the Amity University Lucknow Campus for their continuous help and support.

Overall, the Workshop demonstrated the participants' passion and dedication to advancing innovation and scientific understanding. With about 200 students and faculties from the ASAS and AIB actively participated and made the event success. Students demonstrated their understanding of IPR concepts in the workshop quiz. The quiz was won by Ms. Arya Shukla (BSc Hons Biotechnology), Ms. Vidushi Kesarwani (MSc Mathematics) as first runner-up, and Ms. Annu Soni (BSc Hons Chemistry) as second runner-up. Two special prizes were given to Ms. Ranjini Saha (BSc Hons Mathematics) and Ms. Nikita Yadav (BSc Hons Chemistry) for their outstanding participation in the workshop.
