Dr Sahr is an English Language Specialist with the U.S. Department of State. Her professional career includes extensive experience as a teacher and administrator in various international settings, most notably as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia, school curriculum reformer in Qatar, and Director for Professional Learning and Research at TESOL International Association. Her research interests include online communities of practice/professional learning networks, teacher self-efficacy, and combating teacher isolation. 

Achieved Outcomes:

  • The participants learned to use “The 6 Principles of Exemplary Teaching”.
  • The 6 principles provided faculty members with the knowledge to make informed decisions to improve instruction and assessment, so curricula and courses for English learners are rigorous, relevant, and designed and delivered with second language acquisition in mind.

Conclusion:

The three days FDP was carried out successfully. The learning of 6 principles will help educators to :

  • respect, affirm, and promote students’ home languages and cultural knowledge and experiences as resources;
  • celebrate multilingualism and diversity;
  • support policies that promote individual language rights and multicultural education;
  • guide students to be global citizens.
