Migration is slowly and gradually climbing the international and regional political agendas as a concerning issue in human development. The role of socio-economic inequalities, political volatility, deepening globalization, extreme climate and water events, and disasters have caused people to migrate voluntarily or involuntarily, or they are subjected to forced displacement. Environmental drivers of migration, including but are not limited to ecological degradation, water and climate crises setting likes lack access rainfall or dry conditions and disasters events like droughts and floods, contamination and pollution of natural resources- land, water, wetland, soil and resulting disruption of ecological services and functions fundamental to human wellbeing both for mainstream and migrant communities. Various direct and indirect drivers act in tandem as “push” and “pull” factors- triggering decision of people and populations to migrate. Disasters like flood and drought tend to exacerbate pressure on natural resources, in particular land and water systems. In addition, conflicts related to competing and conflicting uses and users also add to the set of drivers linked to migration and displacement at different levels- local to regional. The need to explore the complex relationship between climate change – water Crisis - disasters-conflicts and migration nexus and build capacity of practitioners, policymakers, research scholars and all stakeholders to collectively outline solutions to effectively address migration debates, migration assessment and to inform innovative mechanisms to respond to migration challenges.
