AIMT at a glance :

The Amity Institute of Microbial Technology (AIMT) was established in September 2004. AIMT aims at excellence in performance, committed to providing quality educational opportunities and services that meet or exceed the needs of learners, industry/business and our community. AIMT is now supported by Department of Science & Technology (DST) under Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure (DST-FIST) to rebuild the Science & Technology infrastructure in the country.

Why AIMT? :
  • State of art facilities: AIMT has most modern infrastructural facilities including two practical labs fully devoted for teaching M.Sc students, two research labs for carrying out the research projects and specialized labs for plant tissue culture, greenhouse, controlled environment plant/ microbes growth chambers, biochemical analysis, cryo facility and facilities to carry out molecular studies etc. Apart from routine basic equipment needed for teaching and research, the labs are equipped with state-of-the art instruments like HPLC, GLC, RT-PCR, TGGE, Gel Documentation System. ELISA Plate Reader, Fluorescent Microscope, Phase Contrast Microscope, Refrigerated Centrifuge, Plant Tissue Culture Room, Zeta Potential Analyzer, Green House, Microbial Culture room, Laminar flow cabinets, Ice flakes machine, Deep Freezer – 20°, - 40° and - 80°, Lyophilizer, UV-VS Spectrometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Electronic Beam Evaporator (for thin film growth), Thermal Evaporator, Electroporator, Transilluminator, Confocal Microscope (Under DST – FIST Scheme I)
  • Modern research: Apart from M.Sc./M.Phil. degree courses, AIMT enrolls Ph.D & D.Sc. students and is undertaking research in a wide range of specializations including plant microbe interaction for improving the value of medicinal plants, medicinal mushroom as nutraceutical, micro-nutrient management and crop quality improvement specially oil seed brassica. The institute is presently running 11 research projects, sponsored by Indian government funding agencies like DBT, DRDO, DST, ICAR, MoEF etc.
  • Scope: Quality control & hygiene in Hotels, food testing labs & catering industry, pharmaceutical companies, distilleries, clinical diagnostic labs, corporate and government sector R&D labs. Students can also pursue higher studies in India and abroad.

 

A brief history

An unassuming man Dr. Ashok K Chauhan has many titles on him. The most successful NRI of continental Europe -1992, the 'Man of the Year' London-1992, the chancellor of Gurukul Mahavidyalaya, Jwalapur, the 'International Man of the year, 97-98 by International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England. The Barter King, The Man with the Midas Touch, the list is endless.

But those who know him closely describe him as an entrepreneur, an educationist, a philanthropist and a humble human being all rolled into one.

Dr. Chauhan's success story started when he left for Germany in 1966. Armed with M.Sc. Chemistry, he pursued higher studies in Chemical Engineering and Plastic Technology in the then West Germany. From there he moved on to become the head of the renowned European Group, Daetiafler. The only such highly placed Asian in West Germany at that time. He then founded the AKC Group of Companies that soon went on to become a global industrial empire.

Dr. Chauhan also has the distinction of being the NRI Member of four select committees set up respectively by the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. It was due to his many contributions that President Zail Singh honoured him with the "NRI of the Year Award" for contributing the most in providing technology inputs in India.

Furthermore, Dr. Chauhan was recognised as the biggest Non-German Investor by the German government during the unification of Germany in 1993, when he acquired eight big factories with a work force of 6,000 Germans.

A recipient of dozens of national and international awards, Dr. Chauhan is the Founder President of the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, which is the umbrella body of 35 Amity schools and institutions of higher education in addition to India's first private university - Amity Information Technology University. He is also the Chancellor for the Amity University. There are over 20,000 full-time students presently studying in various Amity institutions located in 12 campuses in India and overseas.

It is with his unparalleled vision and dynamic leadership that the Amity institutions have come to stand for excellence and quality within a short span of time. Dr. Chauhan nurtures the organisation with a unique character and a firm belief that an Indian possesses virtues, qualities and personal traits that are unmatched in the world.
