The Amity Institute of Disaster Management is headed by a Director General, Lt Gen BK Bopanna, PVSM,AVSM,VSM (Retd) who was the former Director General, National Cadet Corps. During his long and distinguished service, he has not only received formal instruction in Disaster Management at the Defence Services Staff College , Wellington , but has also participated in a number of seminars on the subject organised by the Armed Forces and other agencies. He has also taken active part in several large scale disaster related rescue and relief missions during his service in the Army which include major fire and road accidents, floods and the devastating earthquake in Bhuj in Jan 2001.
The Amity Institute of Disaster Management also draws in considerable in-house expertise from within the large number of Amity Institutions , for taking specific lectures related to disaster management. While the retired Armed Forces officers employed by Amity have the requisite expertise in relief cum rescue related work and command & control aspects concerning disaster management, its scientists and other faculty members who include retired bureaucrats, top managers from PSUs and senior academicians who possess a wealth of knowledge pertaining to study of weather patterns, land use planning, seismological surveys, remote sensing and GIS technology, laser scanning applications, quick reconstruction technologies, management of epidemics, bio terrorism, trauma related to disasters and governance / management applications make the training programme a lot more meaningful. In addition, Amity also invites a good number of guest speakers who are considered experts in the related fields to share their knowledge and experience with the course participants.
