Located in the Indian Ocean, approximately 2000 kilometers east of Africa, Mauritius enjoys a great tropical climate with mild temperature all year round. Winter lasts from May to October with a temperature range of 17 ºC to 23 ºC and summer from November to April with temperatures ranging from 23 ºC to 33 ºC. The island is surrounded by perfect white beaches with turquoise water and lush greenery in the central highlands. Mauritius has firmly established itself as a business hub for Asia and Africa. The local industry comprises of Sugar, Textile, Garments, Financial services, IT & ITES, etc.

The monetary unit is the Mauritian Rupee (MUR) which is divided into 100 cents (cs).
People in Mauritius drive on the left-hand side of the road and give way to the right. Foreigners with a driving licence issued by a Competent Authority in their respective countries are allowed to drive during their stay in Mauritius.
Full time students will receive a bus pass for travel between residence and the school as per the policy of the Government, which is subject to change.
Mauritius is a democratic state based on the Westminster model and enjoys political stability.
Free medical facilities are widely available in Public hospitals. Private clinics provide medical services for a fee.
Part time work is allowed for international students for a period of 20 hours per week. This is allowed as of now and is subject to change as per Government notifications and regulations.
The student needs to have a valid student permit before they apply for part time work. The student permit is received by the respective student within 2 months of joining the course. Average income per month is about MUR 5,000 – 7,000
The part time jobs are available in Super Markets, Restaurants, Travel & Tourism, Textiles, Retails, etc.
The institute may facilitate interviews with prospective employers upon completion of the Programme depending upon local job market requirements for employment of professionals.Employment of Expatriates is governed by rules and regulations of local authorities.
Soft skills are also vital along with the academic programme. At Amity, the students get opportunity to develop their soft skills. They also receive inputs related to career development planning.
For employment in Mauritius, International students will require occupation permit / work permit to be obtained by employer. The School may facilitate contacts with prospective employers.
Students on completion of the program will have an opportunity to become a part of the Global Amity Alumni Network to explore any employment opportunities.
Students who complete UG programs will also have an option to pursue MBA program with Amity Mauritius.
The campus is WiFi enabled and the students have access to free internet inside the campus
Students enrolling in the University of Northampton Programs have access to NILE (Northampton Integrated Learning Environment). NILE comprises of online reading resources such as journals, books, etc. In addition, students can access the Amity Library and the online EBSCO Research database.
There are 15 public holidays every year. Seven of them are fixed holidays: January 1st & 2nd, 1st February, 12th March, 1st May, 2nd November and 25th December. The remaining public holidays are religious festivals whose dates vary from year to year.
Mauritius is four hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and three hours ahead of British Summer Time. Mauritius has international direct dialing facilities to most parts of the world as well as high speed fax and internet services. Satellite TV and local TV & Radio are available in most of the places.
Shopping hours in main cities range from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm (Monday-Saturday). Some shops are open till noon on Sundays and public holidays. Many duty free shops and modern shopping centres (Caudan, Curepipe, Floréal Square, Bagatelle Shopping Mall, Orchard Centre) offer a wide choice of products and are open till 9 pm depending on special occasions.
Most of the daily newspapers are in French. However, the online versions of most newspapers can be translated in other languages. English publications are available on a weekly basis.
Star Bagatelle ,Star Caudan , Star Manhattan ,Novelty Cinema and Mcine show popular English, Hindi movies and movies in other languages.
