February 14-15, 2019 Organized by Amity Law School, Amity University, Noida and University of Adelaide, Australia
Amity Law School, Amity University (India) in partnership with Adelaide Law School, University of Adelaide (Australia) will host an international conference on comparative constitutional law on the theme of "Comparing and Contrasting the Constitutional Models of India and Australia". The conference is being organized in academic collaboration with South Asian University, New Delhi and Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. It will take place on 14-15, February 2019 at the Noida, Uttar Pradesh campus of Amity University.
Comparative constitutional law is a blossoming area of legal research with a large number of new publications in recent years. The comparison of different legal systems provides a number of benefits including the better understanding of both domestic and foreign legal systems, identifying opportunities for legal reform, and improving our understanding of the relationship between law and economic, social and political contexts. Comparative law is used by judges to survey legal developments in similarly situated jurisdictions, lawyers in advising their clients on cross-border matters, and international organisations to promote legal reforms to strengthen the rule of law and human rights. In relation to the idea of a ‘legal transplant’, pioneered by Alan Watson, there is a rich scholarly discourse. Comparative constitutional scholarship by Mark Tushnet and others has demonstrated the extent of constitutional borrowing, with many countries drawing on the experience of others in formulating their foundational laws.
The conference will take place over two days. The first day will include an opening session with keynote addresses by eminent speakers, followed by a series of lectures by distinguished scholars from the University of Adelaide and esteemed scholars and jurists from India. The second day will include presentations of research papers in panels, which will be selected by the organizing committee on the basis of each applicant’s abstract. The committee will select the best paper from each panel for special recognition during the closing session on the second day.
Panels will be formed in relation to the following sub-themes:
October 10, 2018
October 19, 2018
October 28, 2018
January 20, 2019
