“Advance Dyeing & Printing Techniques”

India is a country of diversities. It is rich in various dyeing techniques and printing techniques. India is the first one who introduced the art of dyeing and printing with fast natural colors. The purpose of printing and dyeing is for the adornment of the textile. The various printing and dyeing techniques are block printing, and tie n dye and batik.

 Keeping in mind the importance of practical understanding of these subjects, a workshop on “Traditional Dyeing & Printing Techniques” was organized by Amity school of Fashion Technology.

       Mrs. Madhuri Mishra, Mr. Vinod Mishra (National awardees’ for batik) and Mr. Zubair Ahmed, Prop. Riyasat colors, eminent personalities from the industry were invited  to guide students regarding the various techniques of dying & printing.   

Day 1:- The workshop began with an introduction of the whole program by Mrs. Madhuri Mishra and also covered the detailed explanation of various complex issues related to dyeing and printing process. Mrs. Madhuri Mishra, demonstrated how wax is applied to fabric, followed by dye, in many successive layers in complex Batik patterns.

In the afternoon session the attendees were taught tie and dye. Various methods of creating different tie n dye effects were demonstrated to the students. The students themselves prepared various samples using the tie n dye techniques.

Day 2:-  In the morning session, under the guidance of Mr. Zubair Ahmed, the students learned the block printing process, experimenting with already carved wood blocks. They produced their own sample designs and worked on various patterns.

The workshop concluded on Day 2 and was wonderful experience for students as they learned many techniques and elements to make beautiful fabrics, garments and other home decor items.

The purpose of printing and dyeing is for the adornment of the textile.
