Amity School of Fashion Technology offers professional education in the field of Design,
Technology & Management of fashion, textile and apparel industry

On Tuesday the 9th April, 2024 Ms. Tala Alamuddin, the world renowned Entrepreneur and a British designer of international repute was bestowed the title of Honorary Professor by Amity University, Uttar Pradesh.

 

Ms. Tala Alamuddin was born in Lebanon and is presently based in Singapore. She is the fierce fashion force behind the eponymous line of signature handbags and accessories. An intrepid and unrelenting spirit, she is a woman of the world, weaving her life experiences and inspirations into each other; thoughtfully created statement pieces. From her earliest years, as a fashion-obsessed child and a student in London; to her advertising days in New York and Singapore, Tala has relied on style as an essential medium for expression. Her brand, TALA is the vibrant embodiment of unwavering commitment to her vision, her no-holds-barred attitude, and her happy, multi-continental existence between Singapore and New York, Lebanon and London. Style is also the platform on which Tala seeks to find new and different ways to help empower women to embrace their uniqueness. The colours she uses make one feel instantly bolder, brighter, more positive. And there’s always a dash of fun in her designs because she wants one to be tickled. Launched in 2020, Tala’s first handbag collection reflects her vibrant personality and her unpredictable approach to fashion and design.

 

The ceremony of conferring the title of Professor on Ms. Tala Alamuddin was held at F1 Seminar Hall at Amity University, Noida and was attended by over 125 students and faculty persons.

 

The event commenced at 1.30 pm with Saraswati Vandana and lighting of the lamp by Ms. Tala Alamuddin, Ms. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson, ASFT, ASFA & ASPA, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh and Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Joshi, Group Additional Pro Vice Chancellor Director General & Dean, Faculty of Applied Arts/ Fine Arts/ Performing Arts & Visual Arts, Amity University.

 

Ms. Tala was then welcomed with a sapling and this was followed by address by Ms. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson, ASFT, ASFA & ASPA, who introduced Ms. Tala and mentioned that she is an amazing personality of extraordinary talent and is counted amongst the most eminent and recognized Fashion Designers globally and greatly admired by one and all in the entire fraternity of Fashion Designers.

 

After this Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh spoke about how honouring Ms. Tala Alamuddin is Founder President’s way of supporting the Honourable Prime Minister’s Viksit Bharat Vision where Naari Shakti-Women-led development plays an important role.

 

The title of Honorary Professor was then conferred upon Ms. Tala Alamuddin and she delivered the acceptance speech where she thanked Amity University and encouraged the students to ask questions.

 

The programme ended with Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Joshi, Group Additional Pro Vice Chancellor Director General & Dean, Faculty of Applied Arts/ Fine Arts/ Performing Arts & Visual Arts, Amity University thanking Ms. Tala and mentioning as to how these Industry-Academia partnerships are imperative for the students to gain the valued inputs from senior industry persons.

Amity School of Fashion Technology (ASFT) organized KREATIV ’19 at Amity University, Noida Campus. KREATIV is the annual event of ASFT comprising of Design collection Presentation, Talk shows & display of the creative works of the students.

KREATIV ‘19 is an Annual Event comprising of “Design Collection Presentation” of Students of ASFT (Fashion Design Programme) and “Talk Show” with Artist & Designers. The event showcases talent and original ideas of budding professionals of Art & Design field.

The second day of KREATIV’ 19 witnessed a talk show with Dr. Blossom Kochhar, Renowned Beauty Expert, in which she discussed about the importance of Personal grooming and Personality development with the students of Amity School of Fashion Technology (ASFT) and Amity School of Fine Arts (ASFA). She is a renowned beauty expert, international hairstylist, pioneer of Aromatherapy, educationist and was recently the Grooming expert for FEMINA Miss India 2018.

She talked about the various methods and cosmetics which men and women could use to look smart and leave a lasting impression. She stressed on the need for putting up a good posture by demonstrating the students how to walk and sit during formal and informal occasions. She informed that apart from external application of cosmetics, we need to bring in some major changes in our daily routines to improve our lifestyles like – Exercising, drinking lots of water and taking good night sleep.

She helped students in developing correct sitting and standing postures, good facial expressions and a proper walk.

Vikram Bajaj set up his clothing label under his name VIKRAM BAJAJ AND specializes in made to measure garments for the modern man. The latest offering from the house of Ravi Bajaj, Vikram’s clothing line offers to revive old world tailoring techniques by emphasizing on well-tailored bespoke fits.

He addressed the students on the relevance of clean cuts & neat finishing. He shared with students that his label gives a lot of attention to detail, and the label is engineered towards a perfectly fitted appearance with handsomely tailored cuts and customized fits while incorporating contemporary, modern styles. Most of his design ranges showcases a remarkably unique ensemble of sleek and structured occasion wear in immaculate designs that are curated keeping in mind comfort and quality.

Sport-Couture being the inspiration for his label, he takes forward the ideologies of Ravi Bajaj for a classic yet edgy and sporty look. The collection has been inspired by Japanese culture, street art and urban design and re-interprets the brand in a fresh outlook with Japanese script and samurai silhouettes. In his garments, equal weightage has been given to design and the utilitarian value of each piece. The colour palette for the line ranges from shades of grey and blue to citrine green and red, keeping in mind the sensibilities of the new age man who is both young and attentive.

Hailing from a family rooted in fashion, Vikram grew up learning about the aesthetics of textile and style in all its forms.

He shared his experience of working with designer, Ravi Bajaj as the Head Designer for 5 years. As a natural extension to this, he subsequently diversified the brand under his own label. Prashant verma spoke at length about his experiences in the Fashion industry. Also guided students about their Career progression. He also discussed the relevance of the experience gained by students during Internships, trainings and Industry interface

Prashant Verma was trained at the fashion houses of Alexander McQueen, Philip Treacy and John Galliano. He shared as to how he set up his eponymous label in 2006, and has been presenting his collections at the FDCI Lotus Make Up India Fashion Week ever since. His shows have been counted as among The Top Ten Shows at Fashion Week (Hindustan Times, Nov6,2009). In 2010, he was noted as amongst The Best New Designers in Indian Fashion (GRAZIA India, August 2010) and amongst The Top 25 Eminent Men of India (FEMINA, June 2010). He has been featured amongst The 60 Eminent New Indians (India Today, Oct 2007), Most Significant Debuts of 2008(Times of India, Dec 31, 2007), Best New Designer (FDCI SS2008), along with the ELLE India Style Awards consecutively for 2008 and 2009. His work has been extensively featured in Federico Roca’s book on “Contemporary Indian Fashion” (Damiani Publications, Milan 2009), and most recently in Martina Rink’s tribute book, “Isabella Blow” (Thames & Hudson, London 2010). In 2011, his collections were presented at the "Alchemy Festival", London as part of the British Council Worldwide Initiative. In 2011, his work was also featured in the "INDIA TODAY" Art & Design Exhibition at the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.

REPORT ON INDUSTRY SPEAKER’S SESSION

On Tuesday the 7th November, 2017, Mr. Ahmed Ashraf Zaidi, a renowned retail professional visited Amity University, Noida and addressed the PG students of Amity School of Fashion Technology.

Mr. Zaidi has more than 18 years of industry experience with reputed organizations like GAP, RMX Joss, Apparel United, Asmara India, Red Tag (Dubai) etc.

Mr. Zaidi spoke on the topic of Fashion Retail Merchandising and enlightened the students about the various important aspects of the topic. He also encouraged the students to approach the industry persons with Executive Summary for their forthcoming Dissertation Projects.

He also discussed about the relevance of Portfolio development for Art & design students. He focused on the relevance of a functional well designed Portfolio in digital and print format

Prof Jicha enlightened the students about the prospects in the global art & design students .He interacted with the students about the different career options and the related knowledge, skills and potentials required for excelling in this ever changing industry. He also elaborated on the career opportunities for art & design students internationally He explained about the close association between art & design

On Thursday the 17th August, 2017, Mr. Parikshit Sharma, Independent Retail Consultant and former Senior Vice President, Lifestyle, visited ASFT, Amity University, Noida and addressed the PG students of the newly joined 2017-19 batch.

Mr. Parikshit Sharma has more than 30 years of industry experience with reputed organizations like Landmark Group, Dabur, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. etc.

Mr. Sharma enlightened the students about the expectations of the Fashion Retail Industry from young professionals and the immense opportunities offered by this industry. He interacted with the students about the different career options and the related knowledge, skills and qualities required for excelling in this ever changing industry.

A Talk Show by Guru ShamaBhate, the founder director of Nadroop had been organized on 3rd March 2017 byASPA under Amity Directorate of Applied Arts/ Fine Arts Performing Arts & Visual Arts.

Guru ShamaBhate is well respected as a performer, teacher, choreographer, artistic director, and thinker. Her personal idiom has evolved over the years in an amazing blend of virtuosity (tayyari) and sensitive expressions (abhinaya), revealing the highest degree of classicism.

Recipient of many prestigious awards including the ‘Maharashtra RajyaPuraskar 2011’; Guru ShamaBhate has held many positions of prestige and respect across institutions. She has acquired a special place in the hearts of music and dance lovers, for her extensive work in traditional as well as contemporary format.

Guru ShamaBhate has travelled extensively to the USA, Canada, Europe, Turkey, Malaysia, and Singapore. She is invited to perform solo as well as in group compositions. She shared her valuable experiences of travel & interaction with the artists around the globe

Ms Priyanka Batra, a well established fashion designer shared her journey with students from year 2011 when Priyanka launched a label by the name of PREEVIN. She cited that PREEVIN is an extension of her personality and is currently catering to formal and fusion wear for women.

She pompously shared her experiences from a small outlet in Karol Bagh to The Fashion Street of ShahpurJat .She spoke at length about her experiences in designing & organizing exhibitions at various metropolitan cities of India. On an international level, Priyanka Batra is also catering to the UAE, USA, UK and many other international markets.

Ms Chhaya mentioned that has always been fascinated with fabrics and colour. Her desire to pursue design as a career earned her a degree in Textile Design. She mentioned that even after all her years of experience in fashion & textiles industry, her desire to work with diverse surface techniques and a spectrum of colours in addition to a yen for finesse is truly visible in all her creations.

Ms Chhaya launched her label in 2009 after relocating to Noida and applied just enough of her own characteristic design aesthetic to the venerable signatures to create a look that balances Indian heritage with the utmost respect for luxurious urban chic.

Fashion Designer Rinku Sobti sharing her experiences & speaking about her design collections

Ms Rinku Sobti is the Founder Designer of Rinku Sobti Fashions Pvt. Ltd. a company she started two decades back. She started her career with a London based Indian designer. Later she worked with an Export house and eventually graduated to having her own Flagship store in New Delhi.

Ms Rinku Sobti mentioned that the brand today has major presence in mainstream fashion industry and the designer has been attaining new heights ever since she came in the world of fashion.

Ms Rinku Sobti shared her experiences at various international shows, like the Coterie in New York and Tuileries in Paris and in London.

She highlighted that she has made a comprehensive effort for promoting Indian Handloom Brands and also supporting the handloom artisans and the art of weaving by working along with multiple clusters and bringing new designs to these clusters so that the handloom gets associated with young generation.

On Wednesday the 24th August, 2016, Mr. P.K.D. Nambiar, Managing Director, Flags Communications & Chairman, B-Square Group Of Companies addressed the ASFT & ASFA students on the topic of "Role of Creativity in Leadership & Entrepreneurship."

Industry Interaction by Mr. Mayank Vasles, GM-HR,Reliance Retail at ASFT, Noida on 26th August, 2016

On Friday the 26th August, 2016, Mr. Mayank Vasles, GM-HR, Reliance Retail visited ASFT, Noida and addressed the final year students on the topic of "Campus Placement & Internship Opportunities at Reliance Retail."

The event was organized by the Placement Committee of ASFT. Mr. Mayank talked at length on the history, growth and expansion plans of Reliance Retail. He spoke of the various career opportunities existing in the esteemed organization as well as the skills required to be displayed by the candidates for these positions.

After completing his graduation in Fashion Technology from Amity School of Fashion Technology, in the year 2016, young student Anurag Baghel, decided to continue with further studies and thus, went on to do M.A in Fashion Retail management. Unlike his other classmates, he did not sit for campus placements as his plans and visions were much larger.
Sharing his journey with the post-graduate fresher students, during the orientation ceremony, 2019 dated 18th July 2019 , Anurag spoke about his vision, his label and the challenges that he faced along the road-map of his career path. He launched his label, Twig Tie, as an online brand, specializing in bespoke men’s suits and Indian ethnic wear in August, 2018. He set up a small studio in Noida where he designs trendy menswear for the young and the young-at-heart. He sells his designs across India and overseas as well.

Anurag told the students that the secret of his success is that he dared to take the first step. He motivated the students with a simple philosophy which is- “To Get Started instead of Just Dreaming”. He said that if he was able to do it then so can they.

Students got an opportunity to interact with their senior on a personal level. They asked many questions. They wanted to know about ways to set their designs apart from other competitors, digital media, quality and finishing, achieving the right fit, building customer base; promoting the brand and many such things. Anurag answered each question with a lot of honesty and passion.

A young, fashion enthusiast who dared to take on the entrepreneurship road was invited on 18th July 2019 ,. She had a special connect with the audience due to the fact that she is a proud alumni of ASFT. Ms Shreya Vashishtha completed her Masters in Design- Fashion & Textiles just three months back. And, here she was, talking with students about how to set up their own ventures.

While pursuing her Masters, Shreya started her label in 2017. The name of the label is Aura The Closet. She specializes in ethnic wear and bridal wear. She offers customized solutions and her designs are sold all across country, Canada, Dubai and USA. She is all set to open her flagship store in Khan Market very soon.

Shreya spoke about her entrepreneurship journey, her label and how she started from scratch to build her brand identity. She answered all questions from the students and motivated them to build their career at their own pace and terms. Students got an opportunity to interact with their Senior, Shreya on one-to-one basis. They raised various concerns and asked a lot of questions regarding the right time to start their own ventures, challenges, required skills, managing customers, how to scale up and many more. Shreya was able to address all their queries satisfactorily.

The event was organized under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Joshi, Director General ( Amity Directorate of applied Arts/ Fine Arts/ Performing Arts/ Visual Arts). It proved to be an enriching session for the students as they had live example of their senior who has achieved success by taking up entrepreneurship. As part of the orientation program for the new students of undergraduate fashion courses like Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Technology, Textile Design, an interactive session was organized to explore career prospects in fashion & apparel industry. The session dated 20th July 2019 , was led by Mr. Rajiv Pande who is the Senior Vice President (Garments) at Ginny Filaments Pvt. Ltd. He comes with a rich experience of more than 35 years in the industry having worked at senior level positions at TCNS, Shahi Exports, and Maral Overseas.

Mr. Rajiv Pande talked about new technologies in the industry and new skill sets that are required to adapt to the changing demands of the industry. Students asked intelligent questions about export demand, economy and supply chain management.

Under the guidance of Prof, (Dr) Pradeep Joshi, Director General, Amity Directorate of Applied Arts, Fine Arts and Performing Arts & Visual Arts, renowned fashion designer, Ms Anupama Dayal, was invited to Amity campus on 20th July 2019 to share her experiences and knowledge with budding designers. With a strong emphasis on hand printing and needle craft techniques of India, Ms Anupama Dayal has given wings to her label “Anupamaa” that has now become the global voice of beautiful Indian handicrafts. She was awarded the designer of the year by Cosmopolitan fun fearless female awards 2011, voted as outstanding by ELLE US and style.com while Vogue UK declared her Autumn/winter 2008  collection as ‘easily the prettiest. More than 120 students from Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Technology, and Textile Design participated in this invigorating session.

As the students step into the fashion world, many doubts and questions come to their minds. Ms Anupama Dayal has a rich experience in designing, manufacturing, brand building & marketing in resort wear, pret, ethnic wear and home. She answered all the questions and queries of the students with a lot of wit, humor and patience. Students asked questions ranging from sustainability, e-commerce, client handling, and international market to her personal design philosophy and journey. The interactive session was not just informative but also motivational for the new aspirants.

Indian apparel & textiles sector is one of the oldest industries in Indian economy. India is ranked as the second largest exporter of textiles & apparel in the world. There is a huge opportunity in terms of jobs for the students of fashion in this ever-growing sector. To update the students on the current trends in the industry and to give them a perspective on career opportunities in the export sector, a session was held on 20th July, 2019.

Students of first year post-graduate programs like M.Des. - Fashion & Textiles, MA- Fashion & Textiles Merchandising & MA - Fashion Retail Management, were invited for an interactive session with very experienced member of the export industry, Ms. Sakshi Anand on18th July 2019  

Ms. Sakshi has more than 15 years of rich experience in buying, merchandising and product development of apparel for Indian and international markets. She is currently employed as Manager Merchandising with Cascade Enterprises. Students were keen to understand the organization of an export set up and the system of working. Ms Sakshi made the session interesting with many anecdotes, real life experiences and funny instances. Ms. She gave an overview of the industry and how the export orders are managed. She also explained in detail about the various job roles that the students may adopt after completing the course like designers, merchandisers, quality assurance executives, CAD designers, production managers, product developers etc.

The session helped the students in understanding the dynamics of garment order management on a mass scale. It helped them to understand the requirements of the industry and the skill sets that they need to get suitable jobs. It was an insightful session which made them more aware about the current business scenario. Students asked innumerable questions to broaden their perspective related to the export industry.

The evening of first day of Amity Youth Fest 2018 was bedizened with “KREATIV ’18–Fashion Design Collection Presentation” organized by Amity School of Fashion Technology (ASFT) on the theme- REVIVAL OF TRADITIONA INDIA- AN UNSAID STORY
The Fashion Design Collection Presentation which had been created & presented by the students of Amity School of Fashion Technology (ASFT) on 8th March 2018 , 6 pm onwards spoke volumes about the rich plenteous of Fashion & textiles ,their importance & agreement in contemporary fashion.

The students of ASFT displayed various Collection- Gothic Tales, Autumn Gold, Rebellious Queens, Blanch Luminous, Red Carpet, Maulin Rouge. All the collections displayed the students ability to create and construction Fashion garments.

The event was attended by distinguished personalities of the fashion fraternity like Ms Sakshi Gupta, Fashion Blogger/ Model/ Actor, Ms Shilpa Sahni ,Image consultant , Mr Ashish Batra, fashion Designer, Ms Honey , academician & Ms Garima from Lakme .  

Fashion Teams from various schools including Pearl Academy Noida, Apeejay Institue of Design Noida, ATDC Gurugram , Satyam Fashion Institute Noida, FDDI Noida, Lisaa Institute of Design New Delhi, SNDT Noida, Apeejay Satya University Sohna, World Design University, KVA DAV college for Women karnal.

What did the students gain from the seminar- What are the current practices on sustainability and how TUV SUD is engaged with organizations throughout the world to achieve this objective.

The seminar also touched upon how sustainability is simply everything that we need for our survival and well-being, either directly or indirectly from our environment.  Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.

Mr Varun Bahl is a renowned Fashion Designer & asscociate Member of FDCI. He is a graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, Varun Bahl launched his eponymous label in 2001. He showcased his Spring/Summer 2004 collection at White in Italy to both international acclaim and commercial success. Later, he was chosen by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana to showcase his SS '07 and AW '07-'08 collections at Milan Fashion Week, making him one of the first Indian designer ever to participate on the calendar.

He discussed his various collections, the inspirations behind his collections and the elements of design being used by him. In 2010, he launched his menswear label in collaboration with acclaimed Indian film producer and director Karan Johar called Karan Johar + Varun Bahl. And in the past, he has partnered with brands like Audi, Mercedes, and Snapdeal. His latest venture is Aurum by Varun Bahl, a luxury wedding design company that curates bespoke festivities with precision, creativity, and Varun’s signature touch. Mr varun Bahl is considered to be one of the few remaining true artists & couturiers' in the Indian fashion industry.

His designs embody glamour, sophistication & are an inherently sexy luxe style statement. The labels belief is to pave the way for couture to be embraced as part of one's daily wardrobe with a generous use of exotic motifs & rich luminous tones like old rose, fuchsia & reds. The brands clientele base comprises Bollywood celebrities, known personalities & a loyal customer base spanning India, USA, UK, Middle East and Far East too. Clients swear his clothes are heirlooms like jewelry because of their classic sensibility and incredible quality. Varun Bahl also has a commercially successful menswear label with Indian filmmaker Karan Johar called Karan Johar + Varun Bahl since 2010.

Mr Varun Bahl discussed his forte and mentioned that he is best known for blending the classic with the contemporary, the antique with the new, and the innovative use of fabrics which present a perfect mix of two of his latest collections- the French floral series, which has European influence mixed with vintage designs, and his latest Couture Collections, which have an innovative play of colour, texturing and beautifully hand crafted surface ornamentation. He discussed about the opportunities & challenges of FASHION & TEXTILES INDUSTRY 4.0-and also discussed about diverse sectors of the Fashion apparel & textiles .

Ms Parina Chopra, born and brought up in Delhi is a graduate of Fashion Design program from ASFT. She went to Mumbai to pursue acting and modeling, did film acting course from Barry John Acting Studio Mumbai. She took 1 year experience in stage plays, and did commercials, web series. She did lead roles in web series called Barcode, produced by panorama and Hungama, Vikram Bhatt’s web series called Maaya . She was India’s next top model season 3 finalist. Now she has launched her own apparel label in Delhi by the name AQUA. She works as a Fashion event & wedding planner too

She spoke at length about her studies, projects etc and how her studies in Fashion Design helped her in Styling and presenting herself as an actress. She also quoted the relevance of History of Fashion in designing the costumes for time era Drama Movies & serials . she spoke on the relevance of topic “FASHION & TEXTILES INDUSTRY 4.0- OPPORTUNITIES & CHALLENGES” and also discussed about diverse sectors of the apparel & textiles supply chain and transformations communication and retailing due to digitalization.

These words of wisdom by Donovan Bailey truly define the personality and passion of Akassh K Aggarwal, Accessory  Designer, who is known for his brand ‘Shubhashini Ornamentals’ and is equally passionate about his role as a LGBTQ Rights Activist for his Social Initiative called #PrideIndia.
He is a self-made entrepreneur, who believes in learning from mistakes and that’s why he is never fearful of committing them. As an accessory designer, he is known for his unconventional approach of making more than mere fashion statements. He has also been a key player in blending his fashion aesthetics with a social message on the ramp. His is unconventional in every way possible and that’s his USP.
If multi-functionality had a name, it could be Akassh, as he can be seen working on multi-projects in one go. His dynamic personality reflects in his educational qualifications that include multiple diplomas in Gemology and Diamond Grading, Jewellery Design and Jewellery Expert Technology from the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, New Delhi. He is also certified in Diamond Grading Lab Manual from Gemological Institute of America. As an expert, he is also known for his technical skills in Polish Diamond Grading and International Commercial Standard, application of astrology and colour therapy to Gemstone use and various aspects of jewellery manufacturing including core techniques, and quality control.
Akassh believes in action and strongly live by it. It’s his vision and action that has found a place in renowned publications like Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Economic Times, The Hindu, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Femina, Cosmopolitan and more. He is a critic of perfection and has extended his participation on several platforms as a mentor, visiting faculty and fashion expert at IMS-Design & Innovation Academy, JD Institute and International Gemological Laboratories & Institute.  At present, he is working on a module, where he is working as a mentor to groom upcoming designers and start-ups. All this has helped him earn a distinguished repute in the industry and has been awarded ‘Best Creative Jewellery Designer’ at the prestigious ‘Ravishing Wedding Awards 2016 and the Rajiv Gandhi Global Excellence Award for Consumer Education- Gems & Jewellery. He has also been awarded at 33rd World Environmental Congress, jointly held by the International Association of Education for World Peace and Indian Institute of Ecology and Environment. Also, he has been felicitated at the All India Achievers Conference in the year 2014.
His continued association with Indian Federation of Fashion Development (IIFD) and his collection representing social causes have been received well. Through runway, he has tried to highlight key issues like racism, female foeticide, women empowerment, gender inequality, LGBTQ, marital rape, and intolerance. For the same, he has been featured on various national news channels like NDTV India, CNN News 18, REPUBLIC TV, MIRROR NOW, IndiaToday, AajTak, Times Now, and more. He is also known for this continued association with NHRC on ‘The Gender Sensitization Programme’. As a creative person with a difference, he had some iconic names as showstoppers to highlight these issues that include Zeenat Aman, dance guru Geeta Kapur, acid attack survivor and activist Laxmi, transgender activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, actress Mandira Bedi, Olympic medallist and Para-athlete Deepa Mallik. Akassh discussed about his various collections and mentioned that he knows the art of balancing and devotes equal time to his art aesthetics and social responsibility. On the social front, he has been vocal about the rights of LGBTQ community and has been part of public discussion, talk shows that addressed the most recent repeal of Section 377 by the Supreme Court of India. With his powerful identity, today he stands proud as a leader, who runs the initiative called #PrideIndia and creates awareness about gender sensitivity and the LGBTQ community among various spheres of the society. Mr Pallab has worked for GAP Inc. for more than 20 years and was vice president for global sourcing of woven garments and also managing director for india operations for 4 years. Mr pallab is a nift alumnus and completed his post graduation in apparel marketing and merchandising in the year 1992. He had also completed program on financial management from Cornell University, USA.

He discussed how artificial intelligence, automation, robotics have transformed manufacturing industries into smart factories, e-commerce, augmented reality, digitalization, have completely changed the way consumers buy fashion.  Industry 4.0 has made the supply chain faster, more flexible, transparent and efficient. With the changing scenario, new opportunities have emerged in fashion & textiles sector. At the same time there are key challenges that the industry is facing. The cross-disciplinary seminar aims to explore emerging technologies and changing requirements due to the digital revolution.

The retail market in India has undergone a major transformation and has witnessed tremendous growth in the last 10 years. There is immense opportunity for the students of fashion & textiles in this burgeoning market. In order to understand the prospects better, a talk show was organized by Amity School of Fashion Technology, under the aegis of Amity Directorate of Fine arts/ Visual Arts/ Applied Arts and Performing Arts.

Senior leader from the industry, Mr Aseem Pandey, who is the Vice President at Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, was invited for an interaction with the students. It was a dynamic session where students of post-graduate courses and final year students of Design discussed career prospects in the retail industry, growth opportunities and the future trajectory of the sector.

Mr Aseem Pandey mentioned that retail is India’s largest industry, currently accounting for over 10% of the GDP and 8% of total employment. `India has become the preferred market for Indian and international fashion brands due to which India is now ranked No. 1 in Global Retail Development Index. The sector has been showing double digit growth figures since the past few years. High growth in the sector has resulted in more demand for trained work force. With high intake of employees, retail offers good packages, many perks and benefits along with independence and swift promotions.

Speaking at the talk show, Prof. (Dr) Pradeep Joshi, Director General of Amity Directorate of Applied Arts, Fine Arts, Performing Arts & Visual Arts, briefed students about the placement process. He shared some important tips that the students can use in order to crack any interview like doing a thorough research about the company before appearing for the interview, importance of punctuality and a good CV. He also motivated students to take up jobs in the retail sector due to the wider scope that it offers in terms of growth and salary.

The aim of the session was to motivate our young students to explore their passion and creativity through a mind-tickling interaction with one of the leading fashion designers of the industry. It was an ideal platform for exchange of ideas and to celebrate women leadership in fashion just ahead of Women’s day.

Best known for costume design in movies likeBajiraoMastani and Ramleela, Ms Anju Modi, has been an integral part of the Indian fashion industry since 1990. She is a custodian of timeless Indian art and heritage and has been collaborating with artisans across the country to develop an extensive library in areas like weaving, vegetable dyeing, block printing and traditional embroideries.

Sharing her journey with a full house of undergraduate & post graduate students, Ms Anju Modi shared her forayin the world of fashion, many challenges that she faced, her experience of working in Bollywood with some of the finest actors like Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and director, Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She emphasized on the importance of staying connected to one’s roots. She urged the students to explore the numerous arts and crafts of India and to uplift the artisans & craftsmen.

The aim of fashion education at ASFT is not just to provide jobs to students but to empower them to become job-creators. With this concern in mind, the session was planned to let the students exchange ideas and make an informed career choice.

Starting as a marketing representative with national newspaper,the Indian Express to becoming the Vice President at Christian Dior, her journey has been remarkable.Bubbling with entrepreneurial spirit, her many businesses include leather crafting business, boutique, leather export company and finally her E-commerce fashion platform Lulu & Sky and luxury silverware brand Rezon.
