International Forest Day is an annual summation of the United Nations (UN), with   General Assembly acknowledging March 21 as International Forest Day in 2012. It was to put forward awareness about the significance of all categories of woodlands.

The event was organised at Palash Hall by the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Jharkhand, Jharkhand State Bal Bhawan, Amity University Jharkhand and Citizens Foundation. Various issues were discussed which affected mother nature and how an individual can take accountability for the forests and also for the factors which cause harm to the environment.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests- Shri Rajeev Ranjan of Department of Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of Jharkhand addressed the gatherings by his words of wisdom. He pointed out the importance of Forestry and Wildlife & requested to all to save the forest for healthy and peaceful life.

Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Wildlife, Mr. NK Singh addressed the present students and attendees and said, "There is an interdependence connection between man and nature, but in probe of an adequate lifestyle, we are continually putting it on the backburner.  The existing era requires us to understand the reality that we need to boost and strengthen what is left in the groves today".

The event also saw an online creative writing and painting competition honouring ceremony oversaw for students from across the state.  A total of 13 students were awarded in 9 categories, while 12 other team members from forest committees across Jharkhand and officials attributed with the department were recognized for excellence in the conservation of forests in Jharkhand on the occasion.

Mr. AT Mishra, RCCF Ranchi brought the challenges of Bio-magnification to Limelight in his keynote speech and showed concerned about disappointing scavengers like vultures from our Exo-system. We need to educate ourselves and those around us to find the causes of the degradation of biological reserves. 'Restoration of the Forest' on this World Forestry Day, was his theme with all stake holders.

Prof.(Dr.) Raman Kumar Jha, Vice Chancellor of Amity University Jharkhand invited for collaboration for further sustainability and conservation of natural resources. He stressed that proper education about our eco-system and controlled activities by human race with long term perspectives is the key to co-existence. The programme was successfully coordinated by Ms. Debjani Chakraborty of Citizens Foundation and ended with vote of Thanks by Mr. Amit Srivastava, Director, Citizens Foundation.
