Introduction of Institution :

The Amity Institute of Advanced Legal Studies [AIALS] was established, with the blessings of the Founder-President of the country-wide chain of Amity Universities Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, by Professor Tahir Mahmood in 2003 as a postgraduate and research institution of Amity University Uttar Pradesh [AUUP] for imparting instruction in various legal disciplines at Masters, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral levels.

AIALS has no undergraduate programs; all such programs of three and five year's duration are conducted by the Amity Law School set up in 2004. Five-year undergraduate law programs are also conducted at the Amity Law School.

Amity Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and Amity Law School are now independent units of the AUUP Faculty of Law. AIALS offers LLM programs in five different specializations, whereas seven other specialized LLM programs are conducted at the Amity Law School.


Programs Offered:


(a) Postgraduate Programs
  • LLM (Constitutional Law)
  • LLM (Business Law)
  • LLM (Family Law)
  • LLM (Human Rights)
  • LLM (Criminal Law)

All LLM programs are now of one-year duration and eligibility requirement for all of them is a Bachelor's degree in law including both five-year and three-year courses.

(b) Research Programs

  • PhD in Law (Full-time)
  • PhD in Law (Part-time)

The minimum duration for PhD is three years for full-time program and four and a half years for part-time program. Eligibility requirement for both is an LLM degree.

Library:
AIALS has a rich Departmental Library having over 6000 holdings including legal texts, reference books, textbooks, law reports, reports of various national commissions and a large number of research theses and dissertations.
House Journal:
Since 2003 AIALS has been publishing a bi-annual academic journal titled Amity Law Watch. By the end of March 2023 it had been brought out in 37 issues.
Alumni:
AIALS alumni are now serving in high judicial, administrative and academic positions in all parts of India and in some foreign countries. Many of them are serving teaching at the various Amity Law Schools and in other law colleges all over the country.
