Sir Richard J. Roberts

Nobel Prize Winner, Physiology or Medicine - 1993

Nobel Laureate Sir Richard J. Roberts addressed Amity students at the Amity University Noida Campus on 11th January 2017, where he gave a lecture on ‘The Path to the Nobel Prize’, and inspired Amity students to endeavour for excellence in their fields of interest. He also inaugurated the Sir Richard Robert Center of Genetically Modified Organism at Amity University, Noida Campus.

One of the world’s most eminent and recognized luminaries of science, Sir Richard J. Roberts was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1993, for the discovery of Introns in Eukaryotic DNA and mechanism of gene-splicing. Sir Roberts is a thinker and creator of rare accomplishments who exemplifies mature thinking, action and application of knowledge for common good. A living example of unstinted dedication and resolute determination towards technological advancement and innovation, he is a greatly revered mentor for students and young scientists around the world.

Prof. (Dr.) Yuan T. Lee

Nobel Prize Winner - Chemistry, 1986

Nobel Laureate Prof. (Dr.) Yuan T. Lee addressed Amity students at the Amity Noida Campus, and exhorted Amity students to become masters of their own selves love science, deeply and to challenge and question the things around them which would eventually expand the horizons of science.

Winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1986, Prof. (Dr.) Yuan T. Lee is one of the most prominent scientists of today’s world who has distinguished himself with his contributions to the development of scientific knowledge for the benefit of humanity. He is currently serving as the President Emeritus and Distinguished Research Fellow of Academia Sinica, the most prominent research institution in Taiwan. Not only has he created new knowledge, he has also spread his astounding knowledge, wisdom and experience to budding scientists, scholars and researchers.

Sir Harry Kroto

Nobel Prize Winner. Chemistry - 1996

Nobel Laureate Sir Harry Kroto delivered a lecture at Amity University Noida Campus, where he stated that Nanoscience and Nanotechnology could encompass almost all of chemistry, molecular physics and molecular biology. Praising the Amity students, he said ‘Amity students are the best I have ever met’. He called upon them to look for global citizenship and work towards ridding all countries of nuclear weapons.

Sir Harry Kroto was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996 for the discovery of carbon compounds called fullerenes. Kroto received a Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield and became a professor of chemistry at the University of Sussex. A recipient of many awards and honours, Sir Harry Kroto held many positions in academia throughout his life, most notably the Francis Eppes Professor of Chemistry at the Florida State University.

Prof. Werner Arber

Nobel Prize Winner - Microbial Genetics, 1978

Nobel laureate Prof. Werner Arber visited Amity University and delivered an informative lecture outlining his sojourn into the mysteries of fundamental research which started 60 years ago.

Prof. Arber is a leading Microbiologist and Geneticist known for his path-breaking work in areas of Microbial Genetics, Horizontal Gene Transfer and Molecular Mechanisms of Microbial Evolution. In 1978, he shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine for discovering the restriction endonucleases

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

President of Liberia and Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia - Nobel Laureate visited Amity University and was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (D. Phil) Honoris Causa. In her acceptance speech she spoke about the close friendship Africa shares with India for years.

She is recognized worldwide for her exceptional work in the areas of peace, politics, knowledge dissemination, professionalism; strategic vision and inspirational leadership for propagation of democracy in Liberia.
