The workshop on ‘Child Sexual Abuse’ proposed by the Amity Institute of Behavioural and Allied Sciences, AIBAS was conducted on 13rd September 2019. The venue for the workshop was Moot Court, Block-A. The participants of the workshop were the AUR Residential Children, Faculties, M.A. Psychology and M.Phil. students.
The objective of the workshop:
1. For Parents: To create awareness on prevention of Child Sexual Abuse, giving guidelines to parents on how they can encourage their children to talk about sexual abuse, making parents learn the signs of sexual abuse to protect children from further harm, educating parents on how to react responsibly if their child discloses abuse to them.
2. For Children: Providing information regarding safe and unsafe touch, educating children about safety rules and need to be safe, teaching children whom to approach when they feel unsafe.
OUTCOME OF THE WORKSHOP: -
Parents were acquainted with child’s safety risks in and around their homes and communities. They were made aware of the myths about child sexual abuse. Parents learned to identify the signs of sexual abuse in children. They became aware of the laws related to child sexual abuse and recognized the necessity of reporting abuse.
In the workshop for residential children of AUR, the children learned about body safety and body boundaries. This knowledge prepared them in advance for dealing effectively with any future possibility of sexual abuse.
