ASCENT/ASL, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Organizes Annual Workshop on Soft Skills

Amity School Communication Enhancement and Transformation (ASCENT) and Amity School of Languages (ASL) – Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized the Annual Workshop on Soft Skills on 19 July 2019. Mr. Arijit Deb Roy, HR Manager, Genpact India Pvt. Ltd., New Delhiwas the resource person for this workshop. The Workshop aimed at enabling the students to perform to the best of their abilities in the upcoming campus placement process and also to excel in their forthcoming professional careers. 

The workshop comprised modules on:

·               Corporate Grooming & Etiquette

·               HR Round Interview and Group discussion

·               Mock GD/PI sessions

The event was held in three phases: first, in seminar hall C Block for the students of ABS; second, in seminar hall A Block for the students of AIB, ASAP, AIBAS, ASCO, ALS, ASFDT and third, in seminar hall A Block for the students of ASET and ASE.

After a formal welcome and introduction, the resource person Mr. Arijit Deb Roy opened the workshop by elaborating upon the corporate realities; the dismal skills gap between the industry and institutes & shortage of employable youth illustrated through various surveys & statistics. He further outlined the corporate specific soft skills that the ever competitive industry demands. Mr. Roy emphasized that acquiring these skill are crucial not only for professional career but also for personal development.

Offering tips to the students on winning strategies pertaining to GD, Mr. Arijit Deb Roy informed the students about the parameters on which GD is evaluated, characteristics of successful group discussion, and the method of participation in the GD. Practical exposure was also given through a mock GD followed by analysis and feedback.

The workshop received momentum with a rigorous session on tips and guidelines for attending HR interview. A mock HR interview was conducted followed by few frequently asked questions and effective answers for them.

The entire session being very interactive, the students showed excitement and enthusiasm in the workshop and actively participated in the Mock Sessions. The resource person shed light on various issues faced during different stages of the campus placement process and shared tips on overcoming them.

The workshop was graced by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof.(Dr) M P Kaushik, Director ASCENT/ ASL Dr. Iti Roychowdhury, the members of the faculty of ASCENT/ ASL and  members of the Directorate of Placement & CRC.

The session ended with the concluding remarks and presentation of memento to the guest speaker. Finally, the vote of thanks was proposed by Toshvi Newasker, a student representative from BJMC V sem.
